Please do not pick up baby chicks by the head or neck. This will reveal the gender no better than flipping a coin. The actual reason they kick or dangle their legs is from the fight, flight, or freeze response. However, his info on the wing method can be very beneficial. The best time to do this is at one week of age.

That’s absolutely incorrect. The dangle trick is a myth I tried that and they all fought back and kicked feet up out of all four I ended up with one rooster and 3 hens! So you can’t rely on dangle myth!!

I've done the dangle method many times. But the opposite is true. If it struggles it's a male. The last two times I bought chicks from my local feed store & had the attendant sex them this way. Got all hens both times

I agree. I over a year ago and when I checked my four that I had I had two male and two female. The males are more aggressive and kick and the females dangled limp and gently.

I've raised chickens for years and I personally love the wing sexing method. I have yet to be wrong using that method and it is a method that you can use from day one to a couple weeks old. If you're also not for sure on how to do the wing sex then you can watch them as they grow. On females the feathers grow much faster including the tail feathers. On a rooster the feathers grow really slowly and the comb will grow faster and turn Pinker much quicker. I'm not a big fan of picking the chick up by the neck to see if it picks its feet up because they are likely to snap their necks if you don't know how to hold them properly. Which unfortunately most people don't. Another method is vent sexing and you have to look up how to properly hold a check for vent sexing to work correctly. I also raise mallard ducks and the only way to sex a duck is to vent sex them. There is no Wing method.

Yes you can use the wing sex method for silkie chickens but it is very difficult due to the fact of their feather pattern is a lot different than most chickens. The best way to sex a silkie is to vent sex it. Waiting for the Waddles to turn colors doesn't necessarily work for these chickens due to the fact that their skin is black.

Ok so I bought some baby chicks and the girl that was getting the chicks out of the pen was saying that a woman was telling her that test you just demonstrated and said if they try to fight back they are roosters so then I decided to take 5 or the (roosters) to sale them to a guy and he looks at them and tells me they where all hens needless to say she told me backwards I don't put to much stock in what they say about the dangling and feathers tests I'll keep my chickens till it is crowing and laying eggs then I'll know what is what lol

I've not heard of the paintbrush method. I was told it's the single row or double row of feathers that tell what sex it is. The dangle method I wouldn't do. If a chicken freaks out too bad, I'd be afraid it would break their neck.

This isnt accurate its a myth dont try this and research sexing methods,this will only harm your chicks,vemt sexing should be done by professionals only as it could kill your chick. Best way is to wait and see signs from 4weeks of age or sex links and feather sexing are ways too on certain breeds. Please do ypur research guys!

Never dangle like that. You should make sure to find the back of the skull bone and hold that between your fingers on both sides…NEVER at the “nape” by feathers and skin. This guy proved he was just making videos for content…not information with that last one. He said it was a boy when it acted just like the “girls”….but to be honest he didn’t even hold them right to dangle tested ..PROPERLY…so who knows 🤷🏻‍♀️ They could all be boys who felt strangled! 👎🏼’d
