Fact- there's nothing children feel they can do about sexual attacks while living in a constant state of fear. This is why children are the main culprits still walking around in silence. If they reach adulthood without commiting suicide, chances are their PTSD has gripped them into an emotional lifetime of fear and turmoil keeping their perpetrators from ever being exposed!

Thank you for this. Most men down play rape like it’s a misdemeanor. And blame women a story as old has Eve because most men know they could commit the same crime or thought about and the women is a convenient scapegoat and the man plays the virtuous male victim she wanted it Anything to get get out of prison time . Even in the court room the word rape is not used they use euphemisms like sexual misconduct ,took liberties, indecent assault to soften the actual crime of rape. The narrative must change so the truly guilty are punished

As a male sexual assault and rape survivor, I have a few things to add to this 1. Sexual assault is almost certainly caused not my "masculinity" but by a cycle of violence. You look into the background of almost any abuser and you can almost guarantee that there's some experience of abuse of some sort in their developing years. This was observed by an FBI agent - I forget who - who interviewed numerous convicted rapists in prison. When asked if they'd been S A'd or raped they unanimously said 'no'. However, when the question was asked again but describing the act of rape or S.A the offenders almost unanimously said yes. One guy said his dad had raped him until he was 11. This was also true for other abusers & predators such as Charles Manson, Joseph Fritzl, there's even signs that Harvey Weinstein experienced the same while growing up. My own rapist, she (yes, she) was almost certainly bring sexually abused by her dad, but I didn't realise until years later. Most survivors don't do this, it's a small minority, but they'll target multiple people. 2. The question of lying about rape. That 2-5% or 2-8% figure came from a New York judge in the early 1970s. Now, I sat on a jury once on a rape trial, but the details were hazy at best, and we came to the conclusion that out of both sides of the story, the reality was probably somewhere in the middle, things had been blurred etc. In cases like these, it's likely that both sides genuinely think they're telling the truth, but lack of proper communication and disregard for safety results in something like that happening. Most cases of false accusation are mistaken identity, malicious lies are probably not massively common (bar perhaps divorce cases by abusive spouses) but those who do tell them are probably abusers themselves, attention seekers (a guy once claimed to have started the Great Fire of London because of this and he was hanged), or have made an accusation while not thinking straight and can't go back on it. 3. The best thing one can do to prevent it from happening - assuming one isn't inclined to subject others to it - is to look out for signs of violentization in children so they can get treatment, teach safety to young people of any sex/gender re: intimacy (covering consent, respecting each other's personal boundaries, recognising unwanted behaviour aimed at you or anyone else, contraceptives, caution re: intoxication & sex etc), better policing practices, and intervening in inappropriate behaviour from others safely without risking your own safety or anyone else's safety. Hope this helps x
