Prabhakar existed in real life and his brother Kishore gives Shantaram tours of Mumbai. Previously the tour website had a page saying Gregory never had a slum clinic, but it's been taken down. Maybe it brought too much negative attention.

I still respect his talent though, even if I still think Shantaram needs far heavier editing than in the version (x3) that we've received.

Fascinating story, even if some of it is fiction. As the writer Joan Didion said when critics questioned the authenticity of her book "On Keeping a Notebook", 1968, if what she wrote was actual fact or just a semblance of fact: "...very likely they are right, for not only have I had trouble distinguishing between what happened and what merely might have happened, I remain unconvinced that this distinction, for my purposes, matters." I've got about 200 pages to go in "Shantaram". I at the part where Abdullah gets gun-downed by the cops and Prabaker dies in an accident in his new taxi that Linbaba (Gregory David Roberts) bought the license for. If you like autobiographical fiction, which is what this book, Jack Keroauc's "On the Road", and Kurt Vonnegut's "Slaughterhouse Five" are, you might like a book that I wrote, "Delbert's Book." It is funny stories about my life combined with philosophical discussions. Here's a link to "Delbert's Book" on Amazon. www.amazon.com/Delberts-Book-Delbert-Blanton/dp/1976372860/ref=asap_bc?ie=UTF8

I am hoping that along with Amitabh , Jhonny Depp more other talented characters would get a role. Nana Patekar , Vivek Oberoi, Irfaan Khan , Rahul Dev who resembles the soul survivor Gregory Roberts.

Some of you are looking at this from a white western side, you also have poor command of language and just does anti-communist to do with this? This was a once of life experience and the book is beautifully written. I for one has taken an interest in learning Maharasti, it is a lovely language.

I think if you look at my comment below, it's pretty obvious that I'm aware it's fictional- note the use of the word, ''fictional''. He spoke about Prabakher as a real human being whom he talked to in this clip; he later admitted that he was utterly made up, and not even based on a real person. The two contradict, although you might have a hard time taking that into logical consideration into your own bumhead without being confused. Bet you're an Aussie, aren't you?

"I said to Prabakher at the time"- Mr. Roberts later admited that the character was fictional. End of story.
