Mike, thank you for fulfilling my request.Thank you from the bottom of my heart.For those who don't like the blurry outline of Sh-4, I think this confrontation, which deals with the comparison with Sh-5, will lead to a good option.Sh-5 "Custom" Edge worked for me again I was able to reconfirm that I love the sound.

@pablo091377Ай бұрын
I have the same setup and I am underwhelmed. I wonder if in need to mess with the heights because my JB/Pearly combo in my other Ibanez just blows the custom/59 out of the water.

@ If you want very very high gain distortion sound, sh-5 bridge pickup may not the best choice. It still is a good for high gain sound, but jb sounds more tight and solid than sh-5. I already have a schecter guitar with very high gain pickups, I put sh-5 to my Ibanez for mid-gain sound. I hope this can help you out.

Agreed. I like the wider, fuller range of the Custom for cleans, but the JB sounds meaner and grittier for distortion. I would probably go with the JB as well.

The JB is technically hotter than the Custom, but the Custom has more clarity. Both are bright, crunchy and harmonic with loads of sustain, but the JB is thicker. I think most players can make do with either.

JB clean sounds like it's underwater. Never been a big fan of pronounced mids, but it really works for the distorted sounds on the JB. Tough choice between the two, clean I'd go Custom but distorted.. there's something about that JB sound that's absolutely killer.

SH-4 usually pairs well with a SH-2 Jazz or SH-1 59' on neck, but that's for HSH. For HSS, I'm not sure what to recommend for mid or neck positions, as I don't have much knowledge about single pickups.

The JB has a mid bump, and the Custom a mid scoop. Therefore, I would use the Custom in a LP body and JB in a Strat.
@eliasramirezcroman9 ай бұрын
The Custom SH-5 has a much nicer clean tone because it's lower output and has a clearer top end. However the overpowering midrange of the JB gives it a much more natural "squishy" saturation for distorted rhythms that just feels right.
@LukeCannotSkate10 ай бұрын
I think the JB being so much "better" in the clean department could be fully rectified by resetting the clean tone for the Custom. Its very glassy which is actually good for cleans
@Andrea-qg5yk10 ай бұрын
Exaxtly. The guitar also does much. I put the custom in my mahogany jackson (of which i Always hated the clean tones due to how dark they were) and the extra honkiness gave that guitar a new life

i have a very open and clear sounding les paul, i use it to play AIC, Soundgarden, Tool, maybe Mastodon...i love it because its very resonant but had BBPro..really hate them...at the beginning i tried a Duncan 59b but was too much scooped and with thin treble/muddy bass...anyway much better than the original...than i installed a JB..guys you cant understand what an improvment..now my lespaul is still clear and open but warmer, fuller and fatter.. what a terrific pickup..and the leads are big and heavy..wow i'm so Happy...i think the SH5 is very good maybe better for rythm works due its clearer voice but for solos there is no game guys, JB is FAT !

@anthonystark541210 ай бұрын
Well, that seems to dispel the myth that ceramics are warmer. The JB sounded a lot better than the Custom on the clean tones. I'll admit that was a surprise. In addition, with distortion there is a huskiness to the former's mids (likely in the lower-mids) that reminds me of Vintage 30s. I have a JB which I've considered trading for a Custom, but this has changed my mind. As always, you deliver the best pickup comparisons on KZbin. 👌
@A.J.9910 ай бұрын
I heard the statement the alnico-5 provides warmer and fatter sound while the ceramic magnet sounds brighter and tighter for many times. In this particular comparison it seems to be true.
@lassiemaven10 ай бұрын
I don’t know that I’ve ever heard this, it’s always been Alnico for warmer tones.
@anthonystark541210 ай бұрын
@@lassiemaven It's so common that Darrell Braun made a video about it.
@nj125510 ай бұрын
I think you have that backwards. It's usually said that alnico magnets are "warmer" than ceramics, but there's also plenty of ceramic pickups that sound warmer than some alnico pickups so the magnet type is not the only deciding factor. Overwound pickups also sound warmer and fatter than underwound pickups, the material of the baseplate makes a difference, the size of the gap between the magnet and pole pieces, the shape and size of the magnet and pole pieces, the shape of the coil/s etc. There's so many factors at play in shaping the tone of a pickup.
@anthonystark541210 ай бұрын
@@nj1255 As mentioned above, Darrell Braun has a video on the topic. Does that mean Darrell is the guardian of all things magnetic? No. It means that a person who earns a living from reviewing such things has heard a significant number of people claiming that ceramic pickups are warmer than alnico 5 pickups. I have, as well. So, there you go.
