Great video Andy! One thing about vintage Humbuckers I don't see much is people reviewing their high gain possibilities. Seth's on a low wattage amp like a Marshall JVM 205C, or 59's, Al Pro 2, SH- 16, and Pearly Gates. I'd love to hear a review of these pickups in that hard rock gain territory. No dropped D metal stuff, just good over-the-edge hard rock. No pedals, just straight jacked saturation. Again great review. Good pickups. I'd like to hear those to!

I flipped the magnet of the neck Burstbucker (and rotated the PU itself) years ago. Free and useful change to the middle position that I otherwise never used.
@JaimeCerrada2 жыл бұрын
This is the proper way to achieve this "whacky" or "quacky" sound. Is not needed to flip the humbucker. And the trick here is: If you down a bit any volume (neck or bridge) this massive "quacky" sound will almost dissapear.
@Janne196912 жыл бұрын
@@JaimeCerrada It's different way if you don't flip both the magnet and the pickup. And it it depends on a lot of your pickups and their height how the volume controls affect the tone of both pickups played at the same time. I have no problem getting quacky tones this way.

Can the neck pickup be paired with a different bridge pickup and still get the out of phase tone?
@AndyDemos Жыл бұрын
You can buy the neck separately, yes. However, there are a lot of variables to consider when doing this. Your bridge humbucker should be wound in the same direction and have a similar output, otherwise the out of phase tone may be harder to dial in due to the imbalance. It’s also possible your bridge pickup may have the same magnet orientation as the Duncan and you’d not be out of phase. You can buy those little magnet polarity tester tools to confirm.

The phase relationship changes when you adjust the individual pickup volumes and tones. For instance, if you back off on the neck volume, the overall sound is bigger and brighter. In general, they are most "out of phase sounding" when both volumes are maxed.

These are killer and the are Duncan's most accurate sounding PAF clone to date with the Bonamassa skinnerbursts a close second. I hope gibson will eventually realse the Greeny Pickups they wound for the recent Greeny replica. They sound absolutely amazing . They are the most vintage sounding modern Gibson PAF type yet . They are slightly overwound like a BB2 and BB3 set but have way more clarity and are better balanced . They have the best aspects of custombuckers and the BB2 and 3 but sound better then either one of those. The are hotter then custombuuckers but also have more clarity and balance and are sweeter then the Custombuckers. I don't expect this anytime soon as givisn us planning a less expense custom shop versions and maybe even a Gibson USA Version but it highly unlikely the USA version would get the customshop pickups. The USA Iommi monkey SG just got the regular Gibson P90s instead of the John Birch Simplux P90 clones the custom shop versions got . I would say any USA version at best would have a regular custombucker set with the neck magnet flipped but even that is unlikely . It would Almost certainly be a BB2 and 3 set with the neck pickup magnet flipped which is exactly what they did for collectors choice 1 which was the first Greeny les paul clone they did but then again that was 2010 so it was pre custombucker era . I would love to do a duncan and Gibson Greeny bucker shoot out Based on the limited videos available The Duncan's sound warmer and sweeter while the gibsons seem to be more clear and a touch brighter.

Had t heard Gibson created a set of Green replicas. The Duncan pickups in this video sound great, but my burstbuckets wired for out of phase sound more like Greeny than the Duncan’s do here. That of course could also be the amp used here, too in part. Was excited to learn of these, but they don’t quite hit the mark enough to make me want to swap mine out. Anything that keeps people listening to and/or discovering Peter Green is a good thing. Kudos to Duncan for making these!

I can never understand why in demos like this players add TOO MUCH overdrive. Peter Green's classic tone was much cleaner and purer, especially on slower blues, often with the addition of haunting reverb. As a player of more than 60 years, I think I can safely say that 90% of the sound comes from the player, a combination of technique, "feel" and above all emotion expression. Peter Green in his heyday was master of all these qualities. Two or three notes can say much more than ten minutes of overdriven "shredding"!
