I just ordered the Jazz neck pickup for my LP. Seth lovers and the jazz/ distortion combo are both good. Jazz pickup to my ears is a little more defined and crisp due to mids being scooped. Distortion is the same. Seth has a bit more midrange. I'll be pairing my Jazz with a Pearly gates which I already have. Thanx for the vid!

Awesome! Ya Ive always been a fan of the jazz in the neck. Have used them in many guitars for well over 20 years!

Seth lovers hands down. They have an overall richer sound. And the bridge and neck pickup seem to mate better.

I have a seth lover neck paired with the whole lotta humbucker bridge in an lp which is a good approximation of what page has had in his number 1 for quite some time . He has the custom shop version of the whole lotta humbucker bridge paired with a 1960 Gibson paf in the neck and the seth neck and whole lotta bridge really give you that page with the black crows late 90s page tone . The full set of whole lotta numbers really nail the tone of pages early 70s red norlin era les paul . Duncan pickups are as good as anything out there . Seth's despite being a mass produced pickup hold up to any boutique paf clone out there .

J Pages Red Les Paul (as seen at the MSG Concert 1973) was a 1969 Goldtop refinished Red. It had 2 T Tops in it, the same as the 4 xTTops in his Double Neck and the T Top in his #1 59 LP Bridge... The T Tops are Bright ,and Low Wound at 7.5k ohms, This contrasts with the 'hotter' neck 8.5k Alnico 5 ..Seymours Whole Lotta Love set may be period correct AFTER Led Zeppelin but it it "Half WRONG" (Bridge 8.8K !! no good)for Led Zeppelin and that famous 1973 Tour..Need the lower power bridge and higher power neck to get the "duck quack" in the middle position he used for most riffs and rhythm work (Black Dog, Rock and Roll etc)

The dirty Duncan Seth Lover bridge surprised me. It rocks!
@nvmbrsdoom53 жыл бұрын
Honestly, love 'em both for different reasons. The Jazz/Distortion set has a bit more of a bite and edge to it that would have me lean more towards using it for classic/harder rock or metal type of stuff, and the Seth Lovers just have a richer, warmer tone that can be applied to so many different things, especially bluesier stuff. Man those LPs are both gorgeous, you chose your guitars well!! Enjoyed the shootout, very cool. Cheers!
@downshift003 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, ya they do both sound good. Ya I've used the jazz/distortion for harder gain stuff (punk and thrashier stuff over the years) and I got the Seth's for the bluesier stuff. Thanks for the feedback and for watching!

I know this reply is 2 years late, but the Jb/Jazz set can sound really PAF-like when you roll down the tone knob just a hair. I like that that set does really everything. All reviews I've seen never have really played much with the tone knobs.

I have that same combo on a Tremont I recently bought used. How do you get around the significant volume difference between the Jazz and the Distortion? I have my Jazz almost touching the string and the Distortion is still so much louder.
@downshift008 ай бұрын
interesting. I like to keep the neck pickup pretty low usually to keep it very clean sounding when im playing without gain.

great.. do you have the diferences in sound with sd 59 and jazz in the neck position

Curious as to who your influences were for both the Classical clean section and the distorted section.
@downshift00Ай бұрын
Hmm if you are talking about the clean section with only me playing, that was a piece by Stevie Ray Vaughn (Riviera Paradise) and Randy Rhoads (Dee), The dirty section of just me playing is just some riffs and songs I wrote many moons ago.

Thanks for putting this up, I’ve got a special addition tele... thinking pup upgrade
@vautrain2 жыл бұрын
I don't hear much difference but I'd probably lean toward the Seth Lover, I heard a little bit more richness in the neck position. But anyway, SRV and Randy Rhoads in the same demo, love it!

A great pickup hardly anyone uses is the jazz bridge model . Much better pickup than the 59. Super clear and more mids than a 59 bridge .
@downshift003 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Ya, I've never seen anyone use the jazz in the bridge. I guess I figured it might be a little muddy. That's good to know!

if anything it just shows how good the Helix is
@downshift002 жыл бұрын
It really is. I used to use all Mesa tube gear for 20+ years. Went thru many line 6 modelers over the years. Once I got the helix, I sold all of it. So much easier to record, etc with it.

I'm with Seth Lover's til I die. The Jazz's do sound great though. A bit more presence and treble than I go for. Seth just knew where to cut it off to get that tone I love.

Both are really dark, which is fine if that is what you want. Dimarzio and LesPaul are the match made in heaven, and im a fan of SD for modern sounds.Dimarzio are just more open sounding letting the wood of those pauls come through. Try some you wont regret it.
@chrisking66953 жыл бұрын
The thick wood is the reason why it sounds so dark.

I find the Gibson stock pickups are quite good. Didn't liked the Distortion pickup. Seth Lovers have something i like and something i don't. It depends what is played. They sounded quite good with the funky stuff. For the bluesy stuff i found the Gibson better than the Seth Lover.
