Very good, precise playing! Like many others, I came for the demo and stayed for your playing. I have a Les Paul that I bought used 51 years ago. Yeah, I'm old (70). I've had several different sets of pickups in my old Les Paul, but the Seth Lovers I put in recently are my favorites. For full humbuckers, clarity is their hallmark. They let your fine playing shine through. Great demo and great playing!

Just the sound I have been searching for. You are an amazing musician! Trying to get a similar sound from my Heritage H575 that has original Shallers. Could I hope to get similar sound from the Seth Lovers? Playing though a Fender Supersonic 60. Many thanks!
@jjthomchickmusic
@jjthomchickmusic 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks a lot, Frank! I'd say your Heritage would blow my Artcore away. The Seth Lovers are great, but the Artcore's a cheap guitar, build and electronics are pretty low quality. I get a good jazz sound, but it's no where near the output of the SLs in a Les Paul or something like that. I'm just assuming the H575 is built well and packs much more of a punch, so I'm sure the SLs would sound amazing, probably a lot hotter and brighter. Hope that's somewhat helpful, thanks again.
@ryanstark2350
@ryanstark2350 5 жыл бұрын
I don't know how good the Shallers are but the H575 is an awesome guitar. Mine has Duncan 59s which I'm happy with. I have another Heritage H150 with Seths. I find the high end of the Seths to be excellent. Lovely bright sound but I've never been completely happy with lower notes in particular when I play the E string. They seem to have less punch. I tried the Seths in an Epiphone SG style guitar and once again superb bright and rich highs but bass notes tend to get lost.

@jjthomchickmusic 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks a lot! The stock pickup for this guitar was a super cheap humbucker, and I'm honestly not even sure what kind. When I got the SL's installed I remember the guy joking that he might be able to get $10 for the old pickup. I will say that under the right recording settings it sounded pretty decent; you can check out any of my videos dated before this one to hear it.

Thanks man. The stock pickups in this model (AFS75T) are super cheap; the SL's are much brighter and hotter. The neck pickup is set to normal height, the bridge is raised a little bit as it was a little weak (due my guitar's also cheap electronics most likely.)

@@jjthomchickmusic I happen to have an AG85 that I like as I bought in the USA back in 2004 - so it is a sort of sweet memory. I swapped in a SD Jazz neck pick-up and and a SD 59 bridge. The Jazz PIck-up just does not work unfortunately, I guess is more for a solid body despite the name. (I may try moving it to a Tele or Strat style guitar). The SD 59 (moved to the neck) is instead interesting and musical. Following your video I will venture once more in trying some ALNICO II pick-up, maybe a Gibson 57 or a Pearly Gates (wax potted) . Hopefully it will work better and render a woody hollow-body tone. As for the fingers-ability, there is little I can do unfortunately :-). But I will keep following your channel and your tips. Good job. Cheers

Hi Karen, contgrats on the new guitar! Mine is a AFS75. I got it from a friend who did some modifications to it, including removing the bridge pickup (he claimed it made it louder acoustically) and putting on a new tailpiece. The stock Ibanez neck pickup really didn't have any punch, but I'd highly recommend the SLs. Thanks for listening!

Hey, great playing. You mention that the bridge pickup was removed, but I see a pickup at the bridge. How is that? Do you like the slim style of the hollowbody? Have you played the AF95 with the Ibanez Super 58 pickups. I'm pretty sure the stock pups on the AFS75 are the ACH, which are not very good. Thanks!

I had the Seth Lovers put in a few months ago. Yes, I definitely like the slim body. I haven't played an AF95, but I'm guessing the Super 58s are pretty close to SLs.

J.J. Thomchick Great playing and demo! I was pleasantly surprised. I just acquired an Ibanez As73 for $90. It was super dirty but underneath all that muck was a beauty. Plays great but pickups need some help so Burstbuckers 1&2 or Seth Lovers are what I’m looking at. Do you know if your buddy upgraded the wiring as well? I’m going to change it to probably the 50’s wiring. Again, great demo! 🎶👍🏼

I would like to know the model number of your Ibanez. I have an AFS75 that looks exactly like your Ibanez and I'm looking at replacing the stock pickups. Would love to get the same sound although I am in no way as talented a player as you! Let me know. Thanks!

Thanks for listening! My Ibanez is also an AFS75. The bisgby was already removed when I got it. I have to say these pickups have been a perfect fit for my Ibanez, would highly recommend.

Thanks for getting back to me! FYI I believe that your tailpiece is not a replacement as Ibanez did offer this model as the AFS75 without the tremolo (Bigsby) tailpiece. With the tremolo tailpiece it is the AFS75T and without it is the AFS75. My tailpiece is exactly the same as yours and if you look in the F-hole the model number should be on the sticker inside. Mine is AFS75-TRD (TRD = trans red color). Also was interested in your string selection but did read further on that you are using John Pearse 11-50. Interesting selection. Are you preferring the lighter round wound strings versus the more common 12 flat wound for this type of guitar? Have you tried flats? Again thanks for the reply!

fuguroo Ah yes, sorry - I should have been more specific, mine is ASF75T. Good eye for detail. I bought mine from a friend, and he did already remove the bigsby (I have it now too, haha). Yes, I use Jon Pearse .011s on this guitar. .011s are just a little easier on my hands for chord melodies, especially when playing 3 hour solo gigs. On my first few arrangements like Stardust, As Time Goes By, etc, I’m using .012s. As far as flats go, I’ve always just thought hollowbodies were “jazzy” enough and sound fine with rounds. If you want to go the extra mile and use flats of course they’ll sound great, but you’re really limiting yourself to only jazz as they sound terrible with distortion and are hard to bend. I still use my Artcore for other styles too, like pop and a bit of rock, so I want to keep that versatility (esp. with the Seth Lovers). I think flats are best utilized when giving a regular solid body (like a Les Paul or Tele) a better jazz tone. I actually used flats on my old Epiphone LP and they did sound great. Again, the problem was I could really only use that guitar for jazz, which I did. Any type of distortion was terrible and I could only bend high up on the E and B strings, even with .010s. Just my opinion, but hope this is helpful. Thanks again.

Thanks again For the reply! It definitely makes sense to be using rounds if you are also using that guitar to play other genres. I've been using Rotosound Top Tape 12 flats, but have been thinking of experimenting with 11's to get a softer feel. One of my other guitars is a Gibson Blues Hawk that has 10 rounds on it but lately I've been using that guitar for playing more jazz since it's so small and comfortable. I'm getting some fretwork done on that guitar now and will be setting it up with 10 flats as an experiment to get a more mellow tone out of it. It's good to see that the replacement tailpiece you got for your Ibanez is the correct Ibanez replacement and not one of those standard trapeze tailpieces that normally would be used. When I bought my Ibanez AFS75 off of ebay I was at first a bit confused as Ibanez never actually cataloged the non tremolo model AFS75. They only showed the AFS75T with the tremolo. With a bit more research I did find that they did make the non tremolo AFS75 plus that is how it is labeled in the guitar. I think the guitar without the tremolo is just great as it is a lot more comfortable to play with the thin body. I'm looking forward to doing the Seth Lover pickup upgrade to my Ibanez soon. Just waiting to get the Blues Hawk back from the shop first. Thanks again for posting this video as it definitely has helped me in my decision. Thanks again and stay safe out there!!

Thanks! I'm playing through a Line 6 Flextone II. It's an old modeling amp, still has great tone. The clean stuff is on the Jazz Clean channel, and the distorted stuff is on the Brit Classic channel.
