okay so about the hyperfixation one- I did that with criminal minds 'cause like, I kept hearing things about Spencer Reid and Matthew Gray Gubler- and from my understanding of the character and the actor who plays him, I knew I'd immediately get way too invested in it, so I stayed away from it. The straw that broke the camel's back was getting disney+ through a free trial and seeing that it had a bunch of criminal minds on it and was like "what can it /really/ hurt? Sure, crime shows and relate heavily to smart characters with no social skills- but I can stop at any time-" I couldn't. I couldn't stop at any time. now I'm reading so much fanfiction that it scares me (and I was already reading a lot of it beforehand- anyway-) as a way to keep myself busy from watching actual episodes, because once i start watching episodes I'll start binging and I'm not emotionally, physically or academically ready to handle that behaviour- so here I am rambling incoherently in a KZbin comments section. moral of the story: if you see something and think "hmm this is looking like a new hyperfixation that I might wanna start up, but I have a lot of work to do," don't. just don't do it.
