Seyyed Hossein Nasr - What is God's Judgment?

Every religion thunders its day of reckoning. To examine God's judgment is to probe God's character and perhaps assess God's existence. If God does not exist, God's judgment may expose it. If God does exist, and assuming God is merciful as well as just, maybe we've missed the meaning of God's judgment.

Heaven and Hell seem to have been defined many different ways in ancient times. I struggle myself to to understand the meanings behind those words. I like the worldviews of Jesus regarding heaven. He said heaven ( kingdom of God ) is like finding a treasure. Anyhow... we just keep on learning but as Saint Paul said, we now "see through the glass darkly." So we can't expect to understand all reality in this short life. But someday we will. Take care.... John in Florida

A world or a place without sins, crimes, disseases, wars ,conflict, suffering, hunger, injustice can be called Heaven. Heaven is a place full of Love, hapiness and Peace...Hell is the opposite of Heaven, Hell is a place or a world full of sins, crimes, coflicts, wars, Hell is a place of discomfort, sorrow pain and regrets! Hell a place where there is not one IOTA of Love, Happiness and Peace! Nothing is good to be seen and feel good in place called Hell..It is place of worry, anxiety and self pity, a place farthest remove from the love of God... "You are your own Judge " all our records of deeds( good or bad) is stored in a memory or called data and be played in front of us in future...as your own history...... God gave us a conscience so that we can judge what is right and what is wrong, your own conscience will tell and convict you , your conscience knows everything about you, your hidden thoughts , your actions, everything, your conscience is not yours, But it is Gods agent in Man, it is Gods spy and like a CIA in Man🤣😅 Have you ever violated your conscience ?? Your conscience is like your own best friend reminding you, loving you, concerns about you, ... Do you love your conscience ? Do you listen to your conscience ? Are you happy once you go againts your conscience, are you following your conscience ?? When you do good for others and for your self , your conscience rejoices, But when you do bad to others and to your self, your conscience is striken with sorry and grief ... Are you being true to your conscience or are you lying and hiding to your conscience ? Do you think you can deceived your conscience ? You deceived your own self, maybe your heart can deceived your conscience ?? If your heart resist, your Conscience will insist ... "If there were no Conscience left in Man, restoration is Impossible " DP

This all assumes that we even HAVE a soul. So assume we do. Our souls are supposedly eternal. Do these guys know what eternal is? It means that our souls have always existed and will always exist. (Hmm. Reminds me of the accepted description of God himself.) So where exactly were we for all previous eternity before we found ourselves born as a human? A special cosmic waiting room, I would guess. Just to be born here, and be a good person or a bad person (for barely a blip in eternal time).... all to be judged and sent away to either the happy place, or the saaaaad place, for yet even “more” eternity. Ok. Makes absolutely perfect sense to me. 👌🏻

The multi verse, all the different universes were created at the same time and use the same matter in their construction. But from one universe to the next that matter is randomly scattered so the same object from two different universes is unlikely to be perfectly identical? Which means your counterparts that share your soul in those different universes is unlikely to be identical to you? They could be male or female, maybe not even human at all? I had an experience that has made me start thinking about that again. The constants and randomness of the multi verse.

As per Islam, we will be judged by, though after given Free Will whether we have lived following Quran ( God's words) and Hadith (teaching of Prophet Muhammad pbuh) or not. Death is final. After that it's up to God's mercy to forgive. But in this world before death, until we truly repent for violating God's guidance and seek forgiveness from God, God will forgive except one sin of attaching any partner to Him. Some sins in this world are automatically removed by good deeds as per Quran or Sufferings. After death, good souls will be taken in a place and bad souls will be taken in another place and will remain separated until on the Judgement day God reconstruct our body at fixed age again and soul is given back to it. Heaven and Hell are described in Quran but we may not imagine the real Heaven and Hell. Quran is the final revelation of God given to memory of last Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and he delivered the same. As per Quran, God took the responsibility to preserve it untill the doomsday and we see that it is unaltered even a letter until now from the copy of 1500 years ago. Language style of Quran and Hadith is totally different. Not a single contradiction among Quranic verses. God challenged in Quran that if you do not believe it God's words, the whole humanity together try to construct even 10 verses like these and you will never be successful. Quran is numerically so interlocked that no alternations or insertion or deletion is possible. This holy book is totally impossible to produce by mankind as recent analysis shows. Further more scientific facts mentioned in Quran are all proving true by scientists recently like expansion of Universe and many. So no scope to harbour any doubt rather we can read it to see finally what God said to us. Quran is a book of complete wisdom and easy to understand to take advice. No hatred comment please. Its just a disclosure of truth which many of us may not know. Quran verse 2:62: The [Muslim] believers, the Jews, the Christians, and the Sabians- all those who believe in Allah/God and the Last Day and do good- will have their rewards with their Lord. No fear for them, nor will they grieve.

Furthermore, he believed that matter could transmutate, specifically certain base metals into gold. These are delusional beliefs that have long been proven untrue. From consciousness emerged the fine-tuning..which in turn triggered evolution of both universe(s) and life itself. And perhaps consciousness has ALWAYS existed. This is not a man with a white beard and robe perched upon a cloud twiddling the knobs , this is PURE consciousness which pre-dates everything, and I guess it would have to be, dare I say it, "supernatural". I'm open to do more reading and hope I understand. Can you possibly explain why is absolute evidence "philosophically and scientifically not sustainable?" Doesn't metaphysics and science search for the absolute truth? And they never find it? Anyhow... if indeed absolute evidence is fiction, then what kind of evidence would justify a belief in God?

So, what's your qualification to speak on this matter? That you are Iranian yourself? 😂😂😂 Nasr is MIT and Harvard trained, and was for 20 years professor at Tehran University. In Iran he studied Islamic Philosophy with many masters, esp. Allamah Tabatabai(r.a). He has mastered Islamic Philosophy quite well. As far as Hell being forever. Did you even listen properly what he was saying, that Sufis have said much against Hell being forever. He didn't say Qur'an says hell is not forever. Sufi Like Ibn Arabi and Salafi like Ibn Taymiyyah both said that hell wasn't going to last forever. Lastly, your qualification of being Iranian was enough to expect such a comment from you. We Sunnis respect Iran for standing up to Palestinians and going against Israel unlike Arab countries who are selling out to Israel but people like you are only interested in pleasure which Islamic Republic restricts and you end up being frustrated. That's why so many frustrated Iranians come up with such comments. I am a sunni and Wallah I would love to live in Iran and master Persian language which I have studied little. May Allah guide you.
