Bending Moment Diagram (BMD)
The bending moment diagram for a simply supported beam with an applied couple exhibits a sudden jump at the point where the couple is applied. This jump corresponds to the magnitude of the couple. Between the supports, the bending moment varies linearly if no other loads are present. The bending moment starts at zero at the supports and changes linearly along the length of the beam, with a discontinuity at the point where the couple is applied.
