Yeah both options they did are actual option selects When someone light punch/kick drive rush cancels, you can EX DP as soon as they turn green, and most of the time it works because nothing beats it. Gief however is the only exception to this where he can call out the EX DP with a level 1 as an actual option select in that situation, MenaRD has done this to other pros like Daigo, Tokido etc

hm, can you explain how giefs lv1 is an OS? where exactly is it that the input would not register if the opponent does not ex reversal?

​@@mukburbur696 Button into DR people tend to DP os so they don't get plus frames. If you know someone has a habit of getting out of DR button since it jails you can use Gief's air super since a DP leaves people in the air.

@@crimsonraiza3633 right, but that’s not an option select no? my understanding of an OS is that it’s a certain situation in which two options can be executed close to or in some cases at the same time and will cover more than one option. for example the reversal OS that rashid does here, the reversal only comes out on non-true blockstrings after drc. so my question is, what is the other “option” for gief here that makes his lv1, one of two options in an OS? edit: to add, your explanation implies that gief’s level 1 here is a read, not an OS

This video sadly shows something a lot of players seem to have trained themselves to do: NEVER use critical arts, or anything more than is exactly needed to get the job done. Don't be flashy, even when there's no risk in doing so. When Menard was down to no HP, and had a critical art ready, he just kept trying to do jabs. It makes sense from a training aspect, but it's not as enjoyable to watch when no one breaks out a cool move over a conservative one. I have literally watched dozens of these types of videos. Akuma gets used to death in most of them. The number of raging demons I've seen remains at zero, except one video that was specifically about one player using them.

I agree, but i had a longer reason i was gonna say why i do; however, tldr; its a 2D fighter. Optimal is simply rinse and repeat. So they do the same setups which also include then holding on to meter or simply not being flashy unless they are super comfortable with their opponent.
