There is an open challenge to make bass less muddy for SNES APU. I am going to try to figure out if I can create some automation to create stems for SFC/SNES music (stems are just each instrument or voice as a separate track which unlocks way more mixing options, is generally mixing instead of mastering) - even with batch script I know how to do it but still involves a lot of work for a single song. Some of the songs in my kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4THoqOXerp7sKc heaviest SNES song ranking could benefit from this type of mixing, but this soundtrack is another example with huge bass samples that need to be kept tight.
