Everyone, this is Matt Olson, the thumbnail-creating legend who did all my wonderful animation work and the true MVP of this video. Take a bow sir! 👏🏻👏🏻

@@SFF180 It's always amazing to see it all put together, especially as expertly as you did with editing, music, sfx, story. Also excellent choice in not using my hellscape alarm sound :)

The production quality! Bringing it to another level entirely. I was not expecting this amount of cool animation and polish when I clicked on the video. Can't wait to participate! Thank you for putting so much time, thought, and effort into hosting a fun event for everybody.

Sounds fun. The rules of the book battle incentivize players to have their opponents read bad books in an effort to make them DNF and therefore lose the battle to the other player.

I mean, people can play it that way if they want. 😂 I am of course being very hands-off about that.

I'm definitely going to join this challenge and Discord (which I'm really excited about bc I always want to meet more readers!) I like the buddy system! Do you think Mary Robinette Kowal's Lady Astronaut series counts as space opera, btw? I still need to get to #2 & #3 in that series for the Hugos, so this might be a good motivation to pick those up.

I’d say books 2-3 have enough space content to qualify for the purposes of the readathon.

I would like to, though I confess, I am still very new to that app and I don’t really know how all of it works just yet. But I suppose I could read up on it and learn. As much as I have been turning more and more anti-Goodreads lately, it’s probably time I did that.

Hello, Thomas. I tried to participate fully in 2019 and 2020, but did not complete, so will try to catch up. I have posted by in-progress TBR on Goodreads for this year. Question: is the Sparrow duology by Mary Doria Russell considered a space opera for the purposes of this readathon?
@SFF1803 жыл бұрын
I would say that since the journey to the alien world is a significant part of the narrative of The Sparrow, yes, it counts. Glad you have you joining!
@thestudiointhelibrary13873 жыл бұрын

@@SFF180 Hi, again. I am having trouble finding books/titles that were published before my year of birth (1948). I have found some, but I don't know if they are strictly space opera, like Heinlein's 'Beyond this Horizon' which I have wanted to read for my personal project of reading books published in my birth year. Are there any classic sci fi (before 1948) that are your favorites that would qualify?
