Hello everyone! If you’re coming here for an explanation of why the stream got cut short so badly, please check my community post. I’m sorry this happened, but I’m going to take care of the technical issues (which have been broadly frustrating, because I have not been happy with this new modem set up from my ISP) and have a make up stream this weekend, Saturday evening, same time, 7:30 central. Thank you as always for showing up, and I apologize for the abrupt end.

I followed Gordon R Dickson as far as I could. His assistant, a guy called Wrixton if memory serves, managed to put together what GRD was working on when he died. The book was about the bad guy and how he developed in strange parallel with the good guy, Hal Mayne. It appears that there is nothing more so Where GRD would go from here is not exactly clear. One rumor seems to be that In the siege of Earth and the Final Encyclopedia, the Dorsai will sacrifice themselves to ensure the survival of Earth and the Encyclopedia. Presumably, from this cataclysmic conflict a new route for humanity will open up

Love the video, Thomas. Personally, I'm waiting in vain for the long promised sequels to David Gerrold's, War Against the Chtorr, series.

I met Delaney at a book reading in ~2002 and asked if he would ever write that sequel, He said that it was very unlikely.

Great video, Thomas! Love your Dorsai take. I recently read some short fiction from that universe and was shocked as to how it has managed to maintain any kind of positive reputation.

Wow. Great video. Reminds me of in an X-Men Comic Charles Xavier’s was using Cerebro, his mutant searching computer , to read the minds of his favorite authors. And comments about how their best ideas never get to the page.

11:22 - Iain M. Banks! Then again, his Culture novels are more often than not finding blemishes in his, to borrow from the great Aunty Ursula, "ambiguous utopia" , and, besides, the Culture decided that our planet of savages is best left to its own devices. And, no, Iain hasn't figured out how to come from here to there, either. 😞

I was lucky enough to take a class with Samuel Delaney at Temple. He was a wonderful professor. Very knowledgeable and you could feel that he loved teaching and literature. I know he is a controversial figure, but he was nothing but kind when I was his student. Having just reread Butler's Parable duology, I found it disheartening-though not entirely surprising-that she didn't finish the rest of the series. I read in the New Yorker that the novels took a lot out of her because of how dark they were. - Todd

Seriously doesnt understand the cosmic genius of "Grok" I've read Heinlein since grade school in the '60's and 95% of his bibliography. Good luck finding any grade schooler today who can read on that level. Of course few agree with some of the elements of the cosmos of Heinlein. That isnt the point. Entertaining thought provoking, imagination stimulating adventure and action is the point. O the reductionist materialist folly to understand.
@SFF180Күн бұрын
I suppose the issue here is that I found very little about the book entertaining, thought provoking or imagination stimulating. But of course many readers disagree.

@SFF180 i started reading his books out of the school library in Norman OK and was entertained and inspired enough to follow his career as I got older. Never gonna agree with everything and that's ok. Fiction can be fun and everyone has different ideas. I respect your view and just wanted to give some positive context. This book had a pretty big influence on me as a teenager feeling like a stranger in a strange land trying to figure it all out and friends and I had fun with the grok part and the sex part was pretty much above our pay grade. I grew up to be a conservative who cares about people and our planet. I appreciate your comment.

I mean, if our parents are 70 or older it's a prerequisite to ask the question, what were they thinking? At least one sheet of wallpaper was the antichrist. My kitchen, not my main dining area, where I had many movie nights with my stuffed animals looking at the hot air balloons.

Hello. Quick question from someone who is hesitant to read this book. Dracula The Un-Dead by Dacre Stoker And Ian Holtz is the second to worst book I have ever read. The one and only saving grace of that book is that, somehow, someone managed to write something that's even worst (not Dracula-related, though). Most reviews about Dracul, however, are quite positive. My question is : How does Dracul improve on Dracula The Un-Dead ? It's just so I can decide if it's really worth reading for someone who both loves BRAM Stoker's DRACULA novel and abhors DACRE Stoker's Dracula The Un-Dead. So far, the one and only reason why I am still considering Dracul is because I heard it's about Dracula's time at the Scholomance, under the Devil's Tutelage.
@SFF18016 күн бұрын
I haven’t read Dracula the Un-dead so I don’t have any basis for comparison. Otherwise, my review describes what this particular book is about, but it’s possible it might not be your thing.
