You were there? So had no one seen that done before? Or just the fact that he used it in competition for the win was super hype?

Tony614 Yes i was there, i had seen someone do this in practice mode. But doing it live against a world-class player. INSANE!
@Evilj823 жыл бұрын
@@tarisco614 I was there too. I think people knew it was possible but 3rd strike wasn’t really popular in America when it was release in 1999. It wasn’t until 2002-2003 than it received a resurgence. This was the first time many people saw the full super parried + the jump parry at the end. Of course the tournament setting and pixel of life left made it more hype.

Too many amazing parts. First of all in order to parry Chun's super you have to tap forward even before the flash of her animation starts. You can see Daigo slightly backing up and then tapping forward trying to stay in range to parry so that he'll get the timing. You'll see Ken slightly move forward before the flash of Chun's super goes off, so that was an amazing read to tap forward after Justin whiffed a jab. Parrying the ground part of the super was amazing enough since everything was so loud that Daigo had to parry off of muscle memory and by looking at the screen and not by hearing the hits. Jumping in the air to parry the last hit was a "wtf?? why would he do that?" moment. People thought Daigo was styling, but then Daigo knowing on the fly that the combo he was going to perform on the way down after the parry would kill Chun was just icing on the cake. It was the perfect situation where the crowd, Justin, and Daigo knew what was coming, Justin challenged it, and Daigo over delivered on the hype.

Chun-Li's Super Art 2 is 17 hits (8+8+1). Daigo knew to parry 7 times instead of 8, because of Ken's parry push-back. This means that he either must've done it before EVO Moment 37 or is an absolute master of his spacing. That makes it even more impressive.

I'm not a fighting game player at all, but a friend of mine introduced me to Core A, which led me to searching this. All of my time in competitive gaming in other genres helped me to understand exactly why it it was possible for Daigo to pull this off. And to preface; Daigo is absolutely insane for being able to do this, and I know I'd certainly never be able to do what he did. In fact, what I have to say is a testament to his skill.... This legendary play was more of Justin's misplay than anything else. Justin got overconfident cause Daigo was 1 hit and wanted to close the set big, but it gave Daigo a HUGE opening which he was able to see, process, and capitalize on with those parries and subsequent counter combo into his special. Nothing short of a demonstration of expertise and mechanical mastery. But this would never have been possible if Justin kept his mental where it should've been and respected his opponent. All that needed to happen here was Justin playing defensively until he had that one opening to finish Daigo with a poke. It would've been the most perfect and highest degree of BM, and would've prevented him from being the guy who made Daigo famous. Almost everyone would've chalked it up to a loss, and if they didn't, would've choked. Daigo didn't. What an absolute mad lad.

@ToasterDsG10 жыл бұрын
Except that the SFIV series plays more like SF2 than Alpha or III. Which is a serious down grade. Alot of people where expecting SFIV to take off where 3rd strike left off. (Faster paced gameplay, multiple ways to not lose momentum during rushdown which also doubles as a good defense mechanic, etc) Third strike felt rewarding to win, while in SFIV it doesn't feel as good. Don't get me wrong though, I like SFIV alot, just not as much as 3rd strike.

Anyone noticed how pissed Daigo was? He started throwing in a million taunts midfight and that 5 forward dash in a row into a grab at 3:47 totally disrespecting Justin's defensive style. Not to mention the times he just decided to stand still and do absolutely nothing to watch Justin play footsies with himself.
@CMbReCk8 жыл бұрын
taunts in sf3 gives you some buffs, like more attack or more defense, so you wanna taunt as much as posible, the dashes are for keeping chun in the cornes, and the standing still mabybe it is simply mindgames and trying to read and predickt justin next move

Why the fuck would you red parry if you had no health?
@xdalic5 жыл бұрын
People like to lie a lot , even in the books they mention that nobody actually knew they could party the way daigo did. People could parry a skill but not a complete special attack and certainly not a crazy punish nobody ever saw.
@BearHawkful10 жыл бұрын
Can someone explain why this is soooo amazing? I don't get it.
Have you ever tried to block that attack in Street Fighter? It's incredibly hard to block every single kick. Daigo not only blocked the move perfectly, he managed to finish off Wong with about one health point in 3 seconds. That, by SF standards, is effing amazing.
@ekajgaint566310 жыл бұрын
basically if you do a normal block by holding down backwards you would still take damage which in this case he would have been KO'd by blocking those attacks. However in Street Fighter 3 you can parry which means you have to tap once (not holding) in the particular direction and you will not take any damage from it. So he basically tapped in perfect timing to block very fast attacks and finished it off with a ultra immediately after the last attack, which is EXTREMELY difficult to pull off.
@stopler10 жыл бұрын
What Daigo's do is parrying not blocking.
@Agusloquillo10 жыл бұрын
