I absolutely can not shoot anything shorter than the full size versions, my problem is I'm 6'2" tall and have a long reach, whenever I start banging away with a short one I always burn my left hand on the foreward band right behind the front sight from it heating up and my hand being up against it because of my reach, if I slide my hand any further back then I can't steady the rifle shooting off hand.

Interesting to note that the "B-modifed" target the Marine Corps has used at 500yds since the 1960s was created for the new M16 rifles then being introduced. Instead of the original 500 yd target which used a standard bullseye, the aiming black became an E-Type silhouette to give the M16A1 a high aiming point as the rifle lacked a readily accessible elevation adjustment. In practice however, it seems most people just elected to put almost two full rotations of elevation on their FSP for the 500yd line. Of course the M16A2 and A4 re-solved this issue entirely with a far superior sighting system similar to the M14/M1 and earlier rifles, yet the B-modified target lives on till this era where 4 power RCOs are the standard issue from initial training onward.

After many years of shooting Service Rifle Matches DCM/CMP/NRA both 100 yd reduced 50 round course of fire and full 600 yd across the course, 200 yard 20 round Slow Fire Standing ( lose points here ), 200 yard 2x10 round strings Rapid Fire Sitting (Best Technique wins here), 300 yard (my favorite) 2 ten shot strings Rapid Fire Prone, and 20 round slow fire prone at 600 yards. (Chase the spotter) We were taught pumpkin on a fence post/ six o'clock hold. I had a tendency to bury the front sight into the bull during rapid fire strings leading to vertical stringing and blowing groups out the top. In order to prevent this I would hold with a sliver of white between the top of the front sight (which was angled and narrowed so that the image was sharp but then it only worked in one position of the four possible detents.) and the black bull. The rears were A2 type but in 1/2 MOA clicks with set screws to prevent rotation. The actual military A2 clicks are some weird value. The rear aperture was a special replaceable precision sized hole with a long hood. I finally bought a yellow diopter lense that fit inside the hood. (All legal) The whole Black Hills 77 grain Mk262 MOD 1-C was based on Rattle Battle shooters who needed a magazine length heavy bullet for 500 and 600 yards. Sierra built it and then the military discovered it, The cannelure addition was a bone to be chewed with Sierra who thought it might mess it up, but it didn't. www.shootingtimes.com/editorial/special-forces-to-civilians-black-hills-mk-262-mod-1-review/99098
