Thomas? Awesome, and im giving you a standing ovation .... I don't know how many times I had to pause to add said books to my TBR. I'm so looking forward to the other videos. You are appreciated. Take care!

Another great list, Thomas! The Tchaikovsky book sounds excellent...might have to try and import it early, if the tariffs don't ruin that...🤪

Yeah, maybe getting that pre-order in would be a good idea. 😅

I look forward to these videos every year. You’re so good at telling us exactly the info we need to get interested in each book. I actually have e-arcs of Death of the Author and Notes from a Regicide that I’m planning to get to while traveling this week. Also, dang, John Scalzi is busy.

Well…I feel like an idiot. Where has your channel been for all my booktube life?! Ngl, I just got hooked after looking up reviews for Certain Dark Things, which you did a review for oh-so-many moons ago. It was great by the way. So, I guess better late than never? I hope you’ll continue putting out content, cuz I’ve never gotten as excited about an anticipated book release video before as I have with yours.😂

Thank you so much for coming by and sticking around. I do plan to keep going and hopefully will be producing much more content you’ll find just as enjoyable.

Thank you for all your effort on these videos about anticipated releases. I look forward to them all year and I can't wait to watch the other two upcoming videos on Horror and Fantasy! I'm really excited for Death of the Author by Nnedi Okorafor. As an English Lit student, when I saw the Roland Barthes reference in the title, I immediately had to preorder it.

These are good picks. I've decided that my goal for 2025 is to read more books than I add to my TBR. My TBR is already so long that I need to figure out how to become immortal to get through it all.

I went into a B&N for the first time in a while, and wow what a change. A large chunk of the store had been turned into a toy/game section. And they actually separated out the fantasy from the science fiction, and the science fiction section was tiny in comparison. It was depressing. And most of the fantasy book were hardcover, while the scifi was a blend of hard and soft cover.
@SFF180Ай бұрын
Yeah, it’s a sad trend.

The Martian Contingency and Death of the Author were my most anticipated 2025 releases, but this has added at least 10 to my list.

I didn't realise you were back and active again! I'm so happy! I hard agree there is a lot of literary sci-fi recently (looking at your goodreads choice awards) and it makes me sad.
@SFF180Ай бұрын
I certainly don’t have a problem with literary sci-fi, being the child of a generation who was constantly having to defend sci-fi from preconceptions that the entire genre was innately juvenile and unserious as literature. At the same time though, it would be nice to see the actual SF shelves in bookstores once again filled with as much science fiction as I remember seeing in those days.

I always look forward to this video and your video on upcoming fantasy reads for the year. Your perspective is always appreciated and I love hearing about upcoming projects here that I wouldn't hear about elsewhere. Especially because many booktubers cover the same projects that fit more into the latest trends (romantasy, cozy fantasy etc.), that are fine, but not always what some readers are looking for.

Speaking of indie published books, did anyone else here read Torche Tombante: Kamiumi? If you want hard hard sci-fi, give it a look.
@FabulistАй бұрын
Out of curiosity, if you want “stakes” why read cozy fiction at all? No (or low) stakes is literally the point of that type of story.
@SFF180Ай бұрын
Yes I’m aware.
@dougtricarico8344Ай бұрын
So why read anything in that vein? Life’s too short to read stuff you don’t like. I hate the “woke up without a memory” trope so I don’t read books which feature that. Seems like a form a masochism..
@SFF180Ай бұрын
Where did you get the idea I’m seeking out material I don’t like?
@TheShadothАй бұрын
"We're a quarter of the way through the 21st century..." No Thomas No SF is a hard sell at the editor level these years. Indie has kind of taken over that space. I do remember rolling my eyes at older folks complaining that the genre had changed and no one was publishing "real" science fiction any more. I guess I'm the older people now...
