I knew I saw a sign up in the sky at 12AM, 2000 AD "'Abandon all hope ye who enter here!" Hell of a century. Literally, a hell of century. Most of us old people - in our 70s and 80s admit we are glad that we are old. It's getting to hard to live amid this level of nuts. I don't envy the young. The next few chapters of this history are bound to be even worse. WE haven't hit the nadir point and the pendulum isn't starting to swing in the opposite direction .

Jon, the same thing is happening in the rest of the publishing industry. Tom Monteleone is an author who runs a small publishing company called Borderlands Press. He's on the board of directors for the Horror Writers Association. He questioned why Lifetime Achievement Awards were being given out based on skin color and sexuality and in response, they canceled him and nuked Borderlands Press. These lowlifes infest and overrun everything. He's a great interview if you want to have him on your channel. He's one of many that this has happened to.

I don't think it's intentionally to push DEI here as much as they feel that the purpose of all art is to be propaganda for their belief system -- and that's the sole thing to them that determines its quality. Before Jerry Pournelle became SFWA President, it was mainly a social club. He brought in a lot more focus on making it a support for professionals. There was a general lack of guidance for writers who didn't want to juggle a day job with their writing because they desperately needed the steady income and things like medical coverage. Decades after his time as President, Jerry would still get calls from other authors telling him about an aging pro falling into poverty and being unable to deal with things like medical bills. In the last years of his life, I could see he was unhappy with the direction the organization was going. If he were alive now, he'd be appalled but not surprised.

Sexual deviancy leads to such things. To be clear I am not equating LGBT people as a whole with that term but only the hypersexual militants preaching their decadent lifestyle as the only way to be. As a member of that community myself I have witnessed these interest groups take a hold of the stage in a cult like manner in order to preach their way of life. In a way it reminds me of Sade's teachings on the matter of hedonism and the moral degeneracy it leads to. He explained that such lifestyle only lead to more extreme deviancy down the line due to the old "fun ways" being perceived as boring and repetitive. I am not surprised ChiMo to be included in their to-do list. It was inevitable considering their ideology.

You've probably got enough on your plate across the pond there in the US, but not dissimilar things are happening with the Society of Authors here in the UK. It's not a body confined to a particular genre. Culture wars issues like transgenderism and Gaza have caused splits within the SoA, authors have been let down over free speech issues, others have resigned because they didn't get their own way, etc. Publishing is quietly and not so quietly slowly destroying itself because of Woke/Social Justice activism.

I can't say for sure now ( because I got blacklisted out of the 'community' for various reasons) but it did have a lot of 'secret' advantages for some of its members. One of the first arguments I had with SFWA (when you made a negative comment 20 years ago they'd send a mob of veterans out) involved an arrangement whereby they could fix a loyalist's membership qualifications by getting them published in specially produced zines or short story compilations. At first I just thought the people concerned hadn't realised that what they were doing could be interpreted as unfair... and then the guy in charge of the project (a senior in the club with his publishing credits rather old and few) informed me that he wouldn't have me suck his **** and a bunch of other writers (many of them women - one of whose books I had been fond of) jumped in to tell me I was harrassing this person. Now that there seem to be fewer differences of opinion allowed, I would assume that it's only got worse than it was. But I also bet there's still a lot of seniors using their juniors as unpaid interns etc

Sadly what happens today in US reminds me of the past times here in Eastern Europe. Yeap, the communist times and all the "commissions" and "unions" and "clubs" that authors had to be in before even dreaming of publishing a letter. We got those too. Local, regional, national, small and big, and each of them ruled by a bunch of the most abject talentless hacks you can imagine all of them leeching on the back of the young authors. The corruption was staggering, on both ends. They stole from the higher echelons and the state and they still demanded bribes and favors from the ones that actually worked, the writers and the authors. I remember joining such a "union" after the fall of communism, and shockingly discovering the same mentalities, the same people, the same talentless hacks ruling over everyone else. I gave up in a few months and never looked back. Decades later, I'm watching the "capitalist capital of the world" slowly turning into a joke. And guess what? I even know why! US imported a ton of former commies, and I don't mean die hard communists that loved the system. No. They imported people that were formed by communist systems and that cannot function in an open market economy. They need, they depend on a system of corruption, nepotism, favoritism and bribes that they mask behind some kind of "union" "association" you name it. These people cannot exist outside such systems. I mean they can, but they won't be as rich or have as much power. So US and the West kind of messed it up big time by importing the disease. Former communists are now teaching your kids in schools, they already spawned a new generation of activists that are replacing them as teachers and so on. Now the infection reached each and every single institution in US and soon enough, without a drastic reform, it will keep leeching on the system to the point of collapse.

Science fiction began to die in the 1970’s with Star Wars, which had the effect of created a tidal wave of demand for cheap space opera and fantasy at the expense of hard science fiction. Some might argue that super-fan and agent Forrest Ackerman played a role in its decline by clinging the term sci-fi. It was definitely dead as a viable genre by the early nineties.

And, not only Christians, but conservatives and independents, any one who hasn't been infected by this mind virus. (does anyone else feel like a character in a particularly sick science fiction invasion novel? I feel distinctly like I am a character in a end times novel! Now all we need is an asteroid collision and a nuclear war? The aliens can appear and explain that they have infected over half of mankind?) Are there other exiled writers... unacceptable to this new Inquisition? Are any of them trying to find ways to publish outside of the old mainstream?

You shouldn't always introduce yourself as 'award winning' and all that.. It's about as far away from HUMBLE as one can get, and comes off as desperate and arrogant a little. I like yiu and am subscribed, so I say this to let you know as a F. Y. I... You make yourself sound like THEM when constantly introducing yourself as so much better then them.. You know what I mean. We know, so you dint have to beat us over the head with it at the risk of sounding exactly like those whom you disparage. Cheers..
