SGB Smackdown Sunday: Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3

The sequel fans have waited years for finally arrived in 2011. This is the expansion that was released just mere months later. There's really no point in complaining about that sort of thing now, but the game itself is great addition to the Capcom Vs line-up. It's time to once again go on a wild ride with flashy combos, stunning colors, and a whole lot of screaming.

One thing I love about this game is just the small details and references or such thrown in for just about every character. Like with Phoenix Wright, that sneeze attack I thought at first was just Phoenix being silly until I got the Phoenix Wright Trilogy and learned that's actually referencing Case 1 of Trials and Tribulations when Phoenix had a bad cold and had very violent sneezing fits

Just to clarify for johnny the dlc you bought for fate of two worlds was not included in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3. People who bought Ultimate still had to purchase Jill and Shuma.

Fun Fact : According to Ryota Niitsuma, producer of Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, this game was released as a stand-alone disk instead of DLC because the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan threw off their development schedule. Niitsuma: After the release of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 there were plans to release DLC. But, as you know, less than a month after the game was released we had the earthquake and tsunami in Japan. That had an impact on everything, and it threw off our whole development schedule. We decided that instead of doing the DLC we could put it all together in one package, add some additional stuff to make it robust and deliver it as a disc.

I still think they're good developers and they can put out fantastic games when they put their minds to it. Their recent sales tactics are supremely misguided though, and they seem to have taken Inafune's departure very personally. That's the only explanation I can think of to explain Mega Man's treatment lately, because Mega Man was always a huge moneymaker for them. I don't quite understand that.

UMVC3 is a game that I played the shit out of in my Freshman year in high school (which was last year), and is a game I still play to this day. My personal favorites are Deadpool, Dante, Zero, Captain America, and my personal favorite, Spider-Man! My main team is Spider-Man, Zero, and Deadpool/Dante. :)

1:20 In Ultimate's defense, I don't think the DLC of MvC 3 was actually put on to UMvC 3, rather DLC that was released for MvC 3 was actually compatible with UMvC 3. Granted, an update six months later is still too early, but at least you're not wasting money on DLC. Though when I think about it, it's because the DLC wasn't included in Ultimate that it can't be bought anymore. Talk about a backfire...

The DLC is included in the PS4 download version of UMvC 3 and it's upcoming physical versions (does that make it DLC if it's part of the game...?). So if you get it on PS4 or wait and get it on Steam or Xbox One, Jill and Shuma-Gorath along with all costumes (minus the Magneto one, but that was never released) are included. And yes, I bought it day one, because after missing out on it once, I wasn't gonna miss it again. I may even get the physical version from GameStop.

This wasnt released 6 months later. It was announced 6 months later. It came out 9 months later. Not much better but still misinformation isnt good(I can understand being miffed about it though. 9 months is still a little too soon). And none of the DLC was actually included in Ultimate. Jill and Shuma and the costumes were only unlocked there if you bought them as DLC already, though it was said that some of the Ultiamte additions were going to be DLC but were instead chosen to be put into Ultimate instead. Not really defending things just wanted to point out. Anyway from what I heard the megaman reps in MvC3 were inafune's favorites(Zero is his creation and he really likes Tron from what I heard). And Nemesis is the name of the parasite itself and not the Tyrant. So Nemesis T Type is correct. Anyway it was fun seeing John roflstomp everyone....I mean see you guys play this. Was fun to watch and cant wait to see the next pick^^

In terms of UMvC3, I enjoyed my time, although I just can't shake off the feeling that this is a late 2011 game that only has arcade mode, slightly different styled fighting mode, practise more & versus. I know I already made a commotion about that in the Tatsunoko vs Capcom video, but it really does bug me. As for the game itself, it plays really well & it's definetly fun as shit to play, but I always feel that these types of games revolve so much around using specials & assists that it feels distracting from just the fighting. It's all just personal tastes, but I just like a fighter where I go up close & personal to duke it out with no bullshit ultimate attacks, projectile spamming or any of that getting in the way of straight up punching & kicking. This was a game that I tried really hard to master & spent alot of time practising, but never did it really feel as gratifying as my experiences with the Tekken series (Bias? What's that?). Every second I wasted finetuning my combos & special attack chaning all just felt wasted when I went online to get my ass pounded by the basic Vergil, Magneto & Zero teamup.

Basically, Niitsuma didn't like Mega Man's moveset in the previous games so he replaced him with Zero, whom he thought had better moves. But when Jill Valentine was given a different moveset from what she had in MvC2 (she's based on her brainwashed self from RE5), people wondered why not do the same for Mega Man.
