To add to Matt's Alpha Sapphire/Omega Ruby thing near the start. They are good games that try to act as the remake of that gen. But it's oddly missing quite a few features that were in Emerald. The replacement content is alright with the Delta Episode but it is a little subjective which is actually better. Personally I prefer Emerald. But I know some people do prefer the remakes. Plus if you like mega's then that's a plus on the remakes.

It's like how Onimusha Warlords was released on the PS2 and then a year later I believe they released it onto the original Xbox which had updated level design, new armours and new enemies on top of some re balanced gameplay, but when they remastered the game for the PS4, Xbox One and Switch they based the remaster off the original PS2 version rather than the more feature filled Xbox port.

The remakes have the physical/special split, unbreakable tms, and the best online interface in the series. Emerald has wack rng that makes shiny hunting more difficult than it already was. ORAS is better and I say that as someone who completed the national dex in Emerald.

1:25 OH MY GAWD! SOMEONE actually said Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire are good and are as good as Heartgold and Soulsilver!! THANK YOU MATT!!! I'll admit ORAS still have a few flaws and I can understand why some people didn't like them. But I never understood why a lot of people thought they were considered bad games and said they're some of the worst. ORAS improved A LOT about what was wrong with Gen 3 and they even added some new mechiancs I really liked such as sneaking up on certain wild Pokemon. They're not as good as HG and SS, but I still think ORAS are well made remakes in their own right.

ORAS was great! I love X & Y but ORAS was the highlight of gen 6 for me! It had Megas, which is always a plus in my book. It also gave us the awesome Dexnav! Which made it much easier to find that ideal pokemon! All you can catch legendaries! Soar on the back of Latias or Latios (which made the Fly Hm unnecessary, which is good since fly is meh). There's a few other changes that gen 4 and 5 brought as well. The physical/special split and hidden abilities weren't a thing in gen 3, so the graphics aren't the only thing that got an overhaul, the gameplay has been polished. I love gen 3, but aside for nostalgic purposes or the Battle Frontier. There's no real reason to go back to it after ORAS.

ORAS introduced so many awesome features, such as the best Pokedex ever and the free flight on Mega Latios/Latias, but GF junked it for Gen 7 and likely Gen 8 as well.

GF's motto is if it's a new feature, they wanna ditch it next generation. I honestly can't find the ancient article on it anymore, but there was an article where GF were thinking of keeping character customization out of all the games after X/Y, because it was only added due to France having a focus on fashion.

I would say ORAS is a bit better overall as a remake by actually fixing issues the originals had while HGSS left many issues untouched, improved very slightly or made few things even worse.

Honestly, I prefer ORAS to HGSS, as I feel as though HGSS never really rectified many of my problems with Gen 2 as a whole (lack of interesting story, lack of memorable characters, lack of personality in Johto as a region, and an overabundance of Kanto to supplement that lack of personality), whereas ORAS rectified a lot of my problems with Gen 3 (more fleshed-out narrative, better realized characters, interesting side-content that isn't just the Battle Frontier, and improving the soundtrack). And while it does suck that they removed the Battle Frontier all-together, the vast improvements that ORAS made to the original games shouldn't be ignored because of that.
