SGC Reveal #9: Off-Center But On Point! Aaron, Bench, 1954 Topps

I aim to grade five vintage cards with SGC each month for at least the first half of 2024. I'll show the cards and talk a bit about them in the first half just prior to sending, then follow up with the results in the same video.
EDIT, Feb. 29: PSA parent Collectors has just acquired SGC (ugh). For now, PSA and SGC will remain separate entities. Will I still send to SGC? Hard to say. Probably will take it sub by sub for now. Purely from a collector standpoint, I still prefer the tux for vintage.

Hi John, congratulations! All 5 are beautiful cards that will look great in your collection. There is much more to a card than just centering even though we hear about it often. The Aaron and Bench present nicely. These are 55 to 60+ year old cards and they held up well. Good for you too on getting nice deals on all of these.

Hi Terry, thanks and I totally agree. And I'm usually looking for decent centering -- doesn't have to be perfect but usually I don't buy raw with the kind of centering as these two. But for these two players, my LCS had 'em at prices I just had to at least consider. The color on the Aaron isn't great, tbh, kind of faded, but still a very nice card. The color on the Bench is really nice, though, and probably helped it toward that 5. This was a fun sub!

Thanks, Steve -- this was a great way to close out my grading experience with independent SGC, lol. It'll be interesting to see what happens with all that, but for now the SGC subs shall continue!

John, smart strategy keeping the shipping costs down. It's been a bit since I've submitted more than 5 cards. Cool coach cards. I love the '54 cards with the white and light blue backgrounds. The Aaron looks terrific! The Bench is a classic, good luck on your submission!

Thanks, Sammy! Over time across a whole year it probably averages out to a little bit more on the shipping cost, but once it jumps to $25 I feel like I have to send at least 10 cards to make it worth it. I like the thought of maybe buying more cards, add to The National fund, etc., with that $85 that isn't headed to SGC, um, I mean Collectors. On that note, I fully expect prices to creep up after The National.

Great 54’s John. I sent a 67 Aaron to SGC and it was just as off centered as your 63, but it was sharp like yours. It got a 4.5. I showed it in one of my videos. Congrats on your return. I think you did very well.

Beautiful cards! Im working on a 69 set right now, but im on a card buying break til after Easter. Love that Bench! And some great 54s too! Congrats on the grades, pretty much what you expected or better. Not bad at all. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! I did a few 10 and 15 card subs last year and it was fine, and even though in the end I may pay a bit more on shipping across a full year by just doing five per, I don't feel it as much at the time. And maybe I'm able to pick up one more card that month that I otherwise wouldn't.
