3:08 Alias and Wavefront are still separate companies, so this is before about 1995.

The IRIS line of workstations were our workhorses during the 80s. It was also the initial development environment for mental ray.

I really liked SGI. Shame the hardware was always at a premium. Even a used SGI Indy set me back a few grand back then.

It makes the Nintendo 64 looks good ;-) Affordable meant : the price of a house ! Ah SGI you were so dreamy at the time!

i wish their was a modern game that used this technology as a base hopfully with the rise of open source operating systems like maxx interactive, omni os, beos and reactos we will get to see what modern games would look like in an alternate reality with this kind of historic software

I’d kill to be able to animate with this software but the SGI’s on eBay cost close to a grand including everything you need.

There's one short clip referencing an event or show from '87, so it's probably from '87 or '88, which would also fit the aesthetic choices and technology used.

...This must have been deep into the 80s... It wasn't that bad by that time.
