This is a clean looking intact system. Guarantee he killed it or shipping killed it. The video is complete cringe.

First of all, you need a 13w3 to VGA cable/adapter to get video signal. The Indigo2 accepts PS/2 keyboards and mice. Then if it struggles to come up, reseating RAM might be an option ,(I did it the first time with my SGI O2). It is also likely that the watchdog chip battery might have died, but there are replacements for it If it comes up, first check the specs in the console with _hinv_ command, then boot. If there's no system, you can do a network install with Booterizer. For anything else, jump on the _Silicon Graphics User Group_ Discord server.

"Bodge wires" are fairly common on SGI computers, usually only 1 or 2 though so this is an early model. The other interesting thing I noticed that the PROM chip part number appears a bit odd. Normal is 030-1376-004 but yours is 030-1367-004. Hard to know what the actual differences are though. You have the MC CPU, which is designed for Multiple CPU configurations (Indigo2 was always Single CPU). Less than 5 pins different from the SC, so it could be if they were low on SC CPU's they would use MC cpu's instead. Most other things looked fairly standard. It is the best of the early graphics options, which is nice.

I'd really like to get my hands on a pair of these. This one and the purple one too. There's just something nastalgicaly fascinating about the case to me. I would like to take that case and modify it internally for modern hardware. Even the broken ones are pricey though if you can find one. Someday maybe 🙂!

It's so unfortunate that all SGI plastic became super brittle after a few years. I've never personally dealt with the indigo line, but have dealt with a bunch of other sgi stuff. The weak point is almost always the power supply. Sure looks to be the same in this case :( Also looks like it's graphics option is the 3D rendering version, but without texture memory. I've forgotten the name for that series off the top of my head. It's been a while

Oddly enough the older PSU for Indigo2 is one of the most reliable they made, very few of my R4K units have had PSU problems. The later IMPACT PSU though is far more finnicky and these days I wouldn't use one unless it's been refurbed. PSUs for O2 are also ok, while Indy's two variants really need refurb now. Octane is variable, but also needing some work for both versions for sustained reliable operation. Probably the worst is the PSU for Fuel, but at least it can be replaced with a modern ATX unit and adapter kit so there's no need to use an original and costly unit with Fuel. The gfx set is Extreme, the best of the first gen series for Indigo2, which has no texturing hw at all.

I love Silicon Graphic stuff, without them we wouldn't have had games like Donkey Kong, where all the characters have ben pre-animated on SGI stations or movies like Toy Story. It's a shame that this unit does not work, but considering it arrived in "more pieces than expected", well, not a surprise unfortunately...

hey Joe, I order a lot of computer parts too. why do you not request from sellers after purchase to pack all cards individually or whole pc safely. I always advise them to use lot of bubble wrap, foam or styrofoam internal if comes to sending large or bulky items. All necessary instructions to reduce recieving damaged parcels. Fragile tape, or electronics send as a GLASS
