It's a magical spot up there - has to be one of my favourite places in the world. Looking forward to seeking out that alternative route down but not sure my navigation would be up to it.

Totally agree, it really is a special place. I used Viewranger to plot and follow the route; it's fairly straightforward but could easily get tricky in the wrong conditions. I can send you a GPX file if that would be useful...

It's not too bad if you can download the GPX file I linked in another comment, and use that. Not sure I would have managed it without it. (But that probably says more about me!)
