Never had to deal with Springfield customer service but about two months ago I broke the safety on my Stacatto C2 when it took a significant blow to the concrete! I emailed them and within an hour I had a response that included prepaid shipping labels and within a week of shipping it back to them someone called me from Stacatto and told me that they were not satisfied with the repair so they were just going to send me a brand new one free! Four days later I had it and they also included 3 stainless 17 round mags! A few weeks after that they called me at 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon just to make sure everything was ok. If you are investing this much into a handgun what is that type of customer service worth???

I bought a 4.25 Prodigy DS and love it. Out of the box, mine failed to return to battery numerous times when I first shot it, but it wasn't a parts problem. It needed to be thoroughly cleaned and lubricated. After that, I have put hundreds of rounds though it with no failures. Word to the wise, before you go upgrading it for no reason, try a good cleaning and proper lubrication.

I have a 4.25 prodigy and put 200 rounds through it had two failure to extract, and one that caught the empty between slide and barrel with new round trying to load. Now I’m pretty sure it was with one of the prodigy mags that this happened because my cousin had his staccato there and I was also using his mags also, never happened with staccato mags and pretty sure it was only one of the prodigy’s, will keep better track next outing. Over all I prefer the prodigy over the staccato, except slide release and safety, will also say I preferred the staccato trigger just ever so slightly, not $2800 and f slightly though. The prodigy shoots really good , as good as staccato

The reason more is prod has mim parts and staccoto doesn't. I replaced all my mom parts and paid 275 bucks for everything with a up graded trigger. I paid $1245 for new prod 4.25. With upgraded parts which are better parts then staccoto factory parts I have a total of $1525 bucks total. I installed my holosn eps carry msr which co witness better then any pistol I have owned. The optic is $400 so total with atti wagwell $50. So a grand total of $2000 still $500 cheaper then a basic staccot with no optic. Now I have better internals then a staccot and a top notch optic. This is a staccot killer foresure. Also a wallet saver.

Excellent video! Staccato’s are definitely top notch. I first purchased the staccato p via their LE program and it’s been flawless. I then ordered the Staccato P Heritage which hasn’t arrived yet. Last week, I purchased the C2 and it shoots great-as expected. That being said, 2/3 mags failed to lock back on an empty mag and one of those mags had a round nose dive. I have heard amazing things both their customer service so I called them and was put on hold for 40 minutes, then passed to someone else and waited another 15. I finally spoke to Bruce who told me that those issues are usually related to the magazine spring, and that he would be sending me two new magazine springs. He was very polite and I definitely appreciate him sending me the springs. But I’ve spent around $8k with them and I kind of feel like they could have just replaced the magazines as a whole instead of sending me $9 springs. I would have gladly returned to faulty mags and even offered to do that but Bruce declined. I still love staccatos and they shoot beautifully. Bruce was still very polite so I appreciate that. I have always heard that HK has poor customer service. I’ve shot thousands and thousands of rounds through my P30/P30L/P30sk and never had a single issue of any kind. I don’t know if HK has poor customer service or not because I’ve never needed to call them. I understand that staccatos are built with very tight tolerances compared to many other guns on the market and know that sometimes things happen. It’s just a bit frustrating. I still love their guns though!

The sights on the Prodigy stand higher so they can be seen through a red dot. As you can see, the Prodigy you have will take an optic and the Staccato you have will not. So there's a reason for the difference in site height. If you want a gun with optics capability, you're generally going to get iron sights that are not the most conducive for carry. So my advice, if you don't do optics, DON'T get a gun that's optics-ready. If you have a gun that's optics-ready, put a red dot on it.

I watched a video on the Prodigy the other day. The guy had spent two or three hours just racking the slide back and forth on a brand new Prodigy. He was getting huge amounts of GUNK off the slide and had never fired the pistol yet. He would oil it up, put it back together, and just rack the slide back and forth. He was getting a lot of gunk every time he stopped and cleaned it. He thought the issue was just excess coating on the frame and slide. As he oiled it up and racked it the excess coating was rubbing off and coming loose. He had spent several hours tearing it down, cleaning it, oiling it back up , and just going back to racking the slide back and forth. He thought that from when he started the process till when he finished there was a significant difference with how smooth the action worked. Seems like a bit of work to go through but with it to save $1000.00 dollars or more on your weapon choice to me. But then. HELL I DON’T KNOW ANYTHING ANYWAY!!👍💪🇺🇸

I owned an STI years ago and it was far and away the single best handgun I have ever owned. That was when Kimber's were almost legendary and before the onslaught of other well built guns arriving from all over the world. Today, these "boutique" guns are the rage of the internet corksniffers. I know they are great guns, but any competent gunsmith and some money can turn a Rock Island Arms 1911 into just as good a shooter as any of these uber dollar pieces. It wasn't that many years ago when the epitome of the 1911 dream gun was built around the name Caspian.

@@lynncowden5740 shit I’m of the same mindset. Get a pistol and build it for yourself to your specifications and wants. I carry a cz pcr that I did all the spring work, polishing, whatnot myself. It’s a mixture of parts from CZ custom, Cajun Gun Works, and MCarbo. I probably spent maybe $150 on parts and I would put it against a custom shop pistol any day. 6.5lb da, 3lb sa. I think these pistols are cool but they don’t justify the coin when you can build something just as good for half to a quarter the cost. I love to tinker and have been doing it probably since I was 4 years old. Work on cars, motorcycles, guns, build stuff, whatever. Why pay money when you can learn to do it yourself then have the satisfaction and pride in knowing it’s completely yours and one of a kind.

Love that Prodigy but it had to go back to Springfield to ream out the chamber. Some rounds (mostly S&B) would cause a failure to go into battery and get stuck in the chamber, made for tough extraction. No problems though with other factory ammo like Blazer Brass and Federal 147gr

My Wilson Combat Experior is a similar top end (slide/frame fit, etc) as those two guns. With a certain brand of 124 grain full metal jacket ammo it would not go into battery probably once or twice per magazine. All I had to do was barely touch it with my farm to get it to go into battery, but it would drag on that ammo. I did a typical break in, 300 to 500 rounds, keeping it good and wet, no cleaning during that time. Now it eats that same ammo just fine. Have not had any form of a failure in several hundred rounds now. So I would say, 1911/2011 wants to be broken in, I think more so than most of the typical plastic guns.

Sarge: A couple of more things to note: 1.Prodigy has a loaded chamber hole that will fog an optic if shot seriously at the range. Not necessary. 2. The Prodigy uses quite a few MIM parts. Also, being a Staccato customer has cool perks. I received a swag box with hat, stickers, and 368 patches. I didnt order any of this. It was as if Santa dropped by. None of the swag was followup sales, it was just the company going above and beyond. I own some incredible custom Sigs and CZ 75s. NEVER got free swag from anyone but Sig-Guy. or Cajun Gun Works. I will add, MY Grouping with an XC is better than that of my Atlas Athena, a $6k gun. At $4200, the XC will actually be the unfair advantage in your range bag. Polymer, Striker Fire Firearms SUCK btw.

I'd like to start with thanks for another honest informative video. That said, I've really got no skin in the game. The Staccato is a beautifully made pistol. It looks and feels the part. And although I've yet to shoot one I expect it will perform as good as it looks. I don't however believe it's a $2400 pistol. I think the Springfield comes out on top in the value department. The few shortcomings you mention are pretty minor. Especially the sights! The first thing I do to any 1911 I buy(especially those with hi-viz sights) is toss the factory sights in favor of a set of Dawson Precision Novak style 3 white dot sights. The break in required for a mass produced 1911 has never bothered me either. I would never carry a gun I hadn't put in excess of 1500 rounds through. I just feel it's necessary to get that familiarity and confidence in both the firearms ability and mine to be proficient with it. What I would love to see here is a revisit on the subject with a Bull Armory thrown in the mix! I bought an SAS II ultralight shortly after James Reeves reviewed it and can't begin to tell you how impressed I am with it to this day! I'd pick it over either of these by a mile!

I have 2 C2s. One optics and the other irons. Never, ever malfunctioned and they shoot dot sized groups at 25 yards for me. BTW the sights on the C2 Duo stick up high too unlike the regular C2 that you’re showing. The SA looks like a good range gun but with the steel frame I wouldn’t carry it. My C2s are lighter and despite that very soft shooting especially compared to my LW Dan Wesson Vigil 45 ACP which is my real favorite.

I bought a Prodigy and I don't have too many rounds through it. Probably less than 300. I've recently shot it pretty cold weather. Around 15 degrees (F). It did have a couple of failure to feeds. But my theory is the barrel and breach heat up at a different rate than the slide and with the tolerances being so tight, it causes more drag. Also, I've heard they need about 1000 rounds to break in. Price was a deciding factor for me but also that it is optic ready even if I did have to buy the correct base plate for my optic. I like it. But I wouldn't bet my life on it.
