So I listened to ‘Knuten Nave” and it only confirmed what I already knew: you have incredible musical insight and attention to detail. I love the way you broke down that song into what we have here. It’s beautiful, too.

Mika I see you use The APB Prorack 1020 mixer. Do you use the individual outs for multitrack recording in Ableton or you just record the main out from the mixer? Btw I really like to come back to this tune :)

Hey this reaaaally good! I have a question. Ableton's midi tempo is known to be messy when interacting with hardware. Do you have a midi patch bay and external midi clock? How did you make your tempo tight between ableton and external hardware? Thanks again for the great piece!
@MikaForsling
@MikaForsling 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, late answer coming up! I don’t have any problem using ableton as a sequencer for external hardware, but as soon as you start to mix hardware with effects/instruments/samples from itb latency problem starts.

Because of this cover, I sought out and found the original on KZbin. Wow, your cover is actually far superior. Kudos! By the way I have just purchased an APB H1020 mixer, and your use of it was one of the factors that convinced me of its quality.

So good. How do you manage the sidechain effect? Or maybe I'm wrong and there is no sidechain...?
@MikaForsling

Krzysztof Steplowski, thats done in ableton. I’ve got all my tracks, except for the kick, going to a group where I have my side chain comp.

@@MikaForslingthank you for the answer, I really admire your work and still go back to this videos. Can you tell me which audio interface are you using to connect hardware with Ableton?
@MikaForsling

Thanks! I have my mixer and all hardware fx connected to a patchbay where all ins and outs are going to my computer via a RME UFX and a Ferrofish AD/DA converter.

uff, I am first :-) ...I really love your style , Mika !!! Short question ...I love the OTO BAM and see you have the BOUM also ...how do you like it. Is it worth the money?
@MikaForsling
@MikaForsling 5 жыл бұрын
Hey, Thanks! I bought the boum for getting some distorted sounds and to be able to use the compressor side chained to my analog gear. But honestly I haven't had the time to really try it out. The lopass sounds great and really musically but I miss the resonance and different filter settings the Biscuit has. Depending on how you want to use it (distortion/fuzz, compressor or lopass filter) I guess you could get more value/sounds for the money by other units(or just software), its just something appealing with the OTO design.. I´ll let you know when I dig in to the depths with the Boum!
@ericpeters0n
@ericpeters0n 5 жыл бұрын
The distortion circuits all sound quite good and rich in character... but the main plus is that the LPF is just great sounding. Gate and compressor are ok, useful enough... Boum is defintitely a bit overpriced, but I love the sound of the filter so it's tough to get rid of.

How much do you mix in post? (Love your uploads & channel )
@MikaForsling
@MikaForsling 5 жыл бұрын
Its a bit different time to time. In this track the kick are side-chained to a compressor making everything duck for the kick. Apart from that there is nothing else going on (no eqs, comps, or not even a master compressor). Sometimes I do a low cut on the reverbs so they won´t fill up to much space in the low regions, and normally I have some kind of master bus compressor. Over all some nice sounding reverbs adds a lot to the sound. I love spring reverbs for basses and drums and more ambient ones for melodies and chords.

Any jitter? What midi interface do you use? Sounds tight 👍🏼
@MikaForsling
@MikaForsling 5 жыл бұрын
I use an RME UFX. I haven’t noticed any jitter but I there’s some latency problems depending on different project and setup. That’s why I prefer to record all hardware at once - everything’s gonna have the same latency!
