Our primary Sensei @ University of California, Berkeley, in the 80's and 90's, Paul Okimoto, ( also my important friend and mentor ), recommended Tenri as an excellent Judo Dojo. One of the finest in the world! . One of our students moved there in 1989 to train and teach English. He called Okimoto sensei to tell him that he was so easily throwing all the judoka there and he was surprised at how easy the randori was for him. Okimoto sensei called his friend at Tenri and told him what our student had said. The Sensei @ Tenri told Okimoto Sensei that they were being very soft/easy on our student, out of respect for Okimoto sensei. So Okimoto san asked them to 'please treat him as any other Judo student of low or intermediate level'. Our student reported back to Okimoto san that the next practice, they 'wiped the tatami' with him. He was thrown around like a rag-doll by all the students, also the women! So tired from the new training level was he that he could barely move the next day. He said he felt his Judo started again from ZERO that day. But he loved it! ❤. 😅...
