I home-stayed in Tokyo for a year when I was 18. I had an amazing host family and they taught me a lot too. Also I watched Japanese TV for 5 or 6 hours every day. After a month, I could kind of understand some of it and then I tried to copy what I learned. I made lots of mistakes but it's important to not be afraid of making mistakes^^ I really recommend watching American dramas and movies and talks shows etc...
I always watch your youtube. I can say many phrase because of you. immediately I memoried new phrase. What happened happened.What happens happens. 今まで全然youtube 見なかった私ですがニック先生のyoutube を見てから毎日見るようになりました。英語がわかるようになってとってもありがたいです。そしておもしろいです。日本人より噛まないトークがすごいです。I want to talk to you in English someday.I keeping to study English with your youtube and メルマガ until then .Have a good day.

以前、 a sore loser の意味が良く分からなかった頃に NIC METHOD ENGLISH を見つけました。 He's a sore loser. 「彼は負けると機嫌が悪くなる」ですね😃 He cries sour grapes. とか、 It sounds like sour grapes. 「それ負け惜しみみたいに聞こえる」も、その頃に覚えました。 質問なのですが、 Don't be a sore loser. は Don't cry sour grapes. と言っても良いですか?

昨日、勉強していて知った文法なんですが、"I could't help laughing." なんでこれが「笑いを堪えることが出来なかった。」みたいな意味になるのでしょうか?知りたいです。 'help'を「助ける」と習う日本人にはこういった文は自然に出てこないと思います。
@ニック式英会話4 жыл бұрын
確かに不思議ですね^^ でも「I can't help ~ing」という表現としてとりあえず覚えるのが1番ですね^^ I can't help it.は「自分を止められない」「どうしてもそうしてしまう」という表現で、「it」を動名詞に置き換えて応用する感じですね。I can't help falling in love.というエルビスの曲もありますね^^

ニックさん、数えられる名詞、数えられない名詞を教えてもらえますか? It's hard for me to deal with countable nouns and uncountable nouns. For example, breakfast, lunch, dinner. Those are uncountable, but sometimes they turn to be countable...Let's eat lunch! We had a nice lunch.
@ニック式英会話4 жыл бұрын
That's a good question^^ Yes, they can be hard. As for "We had a nice lunch.", the reason is that we often use the「have a 形容詞 時」構文 I had a good time, I had a bad day, I had a relaxing weekend... So it feels more natural to say "We had a nice lunch." Also, I had breakfast. 朝食を食べた, I had a breakfast.朝食会を開いた これも「have a party」が基本となっていて、have a barbecue, have a dinner(夕食会)...と応用するイメージですね^^
@mitsukohatsuon4 жыл бұрын
Wow! It's not easy, but thank you for taking the time to explain this precisely. I understand that you add "a" when it has an adjective, like "have a nice breakfast." The more tricky sentence is "I had a breakfast" which means like a breakfast meeting. Thanks, Nick.

That's a good (but difficult) question^^ 「痒いところに手が届く」は日本語の表現で、同じ表現は英語にはないですね。(こういうことも多いですね)I would say "It's a very helpful newsletter.” or "It tells me what I've been wanting to know." とか^^

Hi, Nic-sensei. Thank you for always being a great support. I've been enjoying learning English with your videos and app for about three months. Yesterday I signed up for your newsletter you recommended. And then today I received one written about gerund such as ''quit smoking''. Thank you so much!! It's very nice to get such interesting and instructive information automatically. Honesty I get bored super easily, but your newsletter is going to get me motivated. btw, I made a couple of example sentences using the gerund ''smoking''. I can't stand people smoking in front of supermarkets or convenience stores. I wonder why they don't feel ashamed annoying nonsmokers around them. Thank you for reading. I was wondering if you could correct errors, including this sentence.
