Have only just now found your channel and I'm totally mesmerized at the complexity and beauty of the craftsmanship!!! So many ideas for the crafting I play with as my relaxation. Maybe not the technique itself, but the idea of the result. Thank you so much for the time and effort of recording the craftsmanship of your country for posterity!

I am almost speechless. The work that it takes is astounding. The beauty is stunning. And the best part is it wasn't all done on a machine in 5 minutes. Each part of the process took time and skill from people who are masters in their craft. Such talented, skilled people. I am in awe of their excellence. Thank you for showing us what skill really is.

I have long heard of the supreme quality of Kyoto Nishijin ori, and have even collected many obi, some obi design sheets, and the cage-like wooden spindles like those shown in this video. But never, never had I seen it all put together in such a masterful process! And to see the tsuzume tsuzuri (nail weaving) technique as well! This video is superb. Domo arigato gozaimasu! I now understand much better that to wear kimono properly is to become a walking work of art.

Very much so! For me, the vacation of a lifetime would be taking a textile tour of Japan, seeing various techniques to dye and weave textiles in the regions famous for them. I know that relatively few kimono factories remain -- my various textile artifacts come from closed factories whose contents were auctioned off and became available overseas -- and think it incredibly important to preserve the knowledge and skills that have evolved over the centuries. Thank you very much for these wonderful videos, and for your role in giving masters the recognition they deserve.

Sooo calming and mesmerizing! No wonder why these Nishijin-oris are as expensive as they are; They're both beautiful and woven with the utmost care. I was looking for an obi for my furisode two years ago and was shocked by the price.

That was beautiful. I had no idea how weaved articles of clothing or tapestries were made, nor did I ever really care. It was just there. Some of it looked nice, others....meh, it was just there. Now I'll never look at weaving the same again. So much patience, talent, craftsmanship and artistry goes into some of those pieces, I am just amazed.
