The photos brought back bittersweet memories of the place I lived more than 62 years ago. We lived in the very first 2-storied public housing the government built. It's nowhere to be seen now. I watched the construction and the rise of the 7-story public housing as a kid. I peeked into one of the newly complete building and was envious, compare to the two story ones we live. Our complex was on the main street where most construction vehicles passes through. They were blasting the hills with dynamites throughout the day to get building materials for the 7-story buildings. Our building was one closes to the hills. We hear blastings throughout the day. There were guava trees in those hill where we used to pick as a kid. We lived on the second story. I remember two rooms down, one family was making mirrors with mercury. Of course we didn't know it was hazardous then. There was a shop down stair making all sort of beautiful things out of Ivory. They were skillful craftsmen. Of course Ivory is now outlawed. The 1956 Hong Kong riot occurred while living there. I only saw parts of it as there were curfews and we couldn't leave out house. I remember there used to be signs on exclusive neighborhoods that read: Ordinary people and dogs are not allowed. Our lives were worth less than dogs. Talking about being prejudice. All those things have long gone now. I couldn't even find any pictures of the two story buildings. All it left was the memories in the back of my mind.

YOU are the one who mentioned 2-storey I-shape buildings which were built as an emergency measure to house those fire victims. Yes, I very often visited my classmate who lived on the 2nd floor of one of those 2-storey buildings.
I spent time there in many summer in late 1970's helping my mother to load and unload semi-finished products. My memory of that place are all in color, not in black and white like those shown in this video. I still remember the Black Pine Soda from Taiwan that were available in the grocery store there (and no where else).
