Still lovin' Sha Na Na after all these years. I got to see them live in 1979 and met Bowser afterward; such a complete gentleman and a class act all the way. - - When I see the pathetic boy bands that are called "music" today, I want to weep for the generations who will never know what music really is. I remember seeing an interview of a boy band back when, and they were whining about how /hard/ it was to remember the words to their songs /and/ all the dance moves! Poor widdle babies! I want to jack slap them and make them sit down and watch something like this!! Every man played an instrument, and most played more than one. This video being a prime example of that. They all took part in the dance moves, frequently while playing their instruments... and they ALL could sing. And Jocko! What a dreamboat!! *obligatory fangirl moment ;) * Thank you, Foofsmom, for posting these. Me and my 'foof' are gonna spend the day curled up with some of the best music and most talented performers ever! GREASE FOR PEACE!
Thanks, I feel old now as I was 20 when this show started back in 1977!! Let me get my cane! LOL!! I'm glad ya discovered them as they ROCK!!!

@merriemisfit84065 жыл бұрын
True, even though he DID release a solo album. At least one. I guess manning the drums limits your mobility, and Sha Na Na's vocalists were usually quite choreographically involved. Plus he performed at the "No Nukes" concert in 1979 as a solo act. Before I posted this I looked around to see if I could confirm that easily, but I guess you'll just have to take my word for it -- a clip of him singing accompanied the radio news blip I heard on the following Monday morning when I was getting ready for school. (And why do I still remember that ...? Crud -- I still remember some of these shows in such vivid detail you'd think I just saw them in the last week or two.)

@wesleycook76873 жыл бұрын
@@jessiejames7492 Patrick left the band in 72. Several others also left. Vinnie Taylor died. Henry Gross went solo. There are some I never really knew but I saw them perform. The original band had almost 20 members. Bowser joined in 1970. Johnny was hired as a backup singer singer and dancer but he was given several songs to do because of his great tenor voice. When Henry left, Johnny was put up front as lead tenor. All the singers, Lennie, Donny, Danny and so on had great talented voices. By the time their TV show came on, the group had only about 10-12 members. Bowser , Johnny, Denny, The Captain and Donny became the frequent singers but all the guys had some kind of great talent. Sometimes,one that was a musician would blow you away because you found out they were great singers too. Sha Na Na was one of a kind. Trained and untrained singers were in the band. English band Shadowaddy tried to be an English Sha Na Na but comparing the 2 is useless. English fans preferred them even though some UK fans knew Sha Na Na was better. There will never be another group with so much talent. Sadly, Lennie, Donny and others are gone. Lennie's trademark sax and light pleasing voice eclipsed the 30 year fat guy look that he had. Enjoy these guys as they were. Sha Na Na still has a touring group of younger people here in 2021, but they lack the personality and vigor of the originals. Sad.

Admittedly, there's about a 90% chance that all of it, outside of the vocals are actually canned, so it doesn't really matter who's sitting at the piano, but still... (If you don't believe me, watch Scott during any Jerry Lee Lewis number. Usually, what he's doing and what the piano is doing are two slightly different things.) Doesn't detract in my mind from the performance at all, though.

Adam Kraemer well you got to understand something this was necessary because wireless mics that you can clip on was it invented then and there's no way you can hold a boom mic open the singers and performers once they got the rhythm going and they got their booty shaking going so those long boom mic you see in the movies what a guy's arm is tired from holding the boom mic over the actors where you can't do that in a live or in a concert typesetting it doesn't look right so lip-sync had to be necessary back in them days what no wireless mic invented yet
