Technically extremely sound, looks fresh even today. Not many movies today can match the finesse, inspite of having green screen technology. Actions scenes were exceptional, songs were awesome.

Coincidentally I was just thinking yesterday how Shakaal wasn't a scary villain, after listening to the DDLJ recasting episode and remembering how effortlessly scary Amrish Puri could be. I'd forgotten the crocodiles, but otoh Mogambo had a lava pool. Shakaal was a Bond villain, but not as fun. SRK once dissed Shaan in some interview saying "Sholay ka Shaan mat banao", using it as a metaphor for over-reaching. I definitely liked parts of the movie when I watched it on TV back in the day, but it doesn't work as a whole. The initial con portions are more fun. The soundtrack is great, especially "Jaanu Meri Jaan" is a banger. Mazhar Khan was a real life villain, a wife beater (Zeenat Aman!) abuser. Dunno why I tossed that in.

25:00 this movie is great no doubt on that regarding Amitabh Bachchan role it's like Akshay Kumar's movies like he outshines everyone when he's the lead guy wherein sholay lead guy is Dharmendra so that's the difference between shaan and sholay regarding no othery guys outshining but won't deny this movie was way cooler than sholay
