Great project and very smart thinking! I was told long ago at a stamping class to always store my ink pads upside down to keep the top of the ink pad moist and from drying out. I have mine done this way and I love it--I don't have nearly as many as you though. I also put a piece of velcro on the bottom of each one and place a blending foam on the bottom of each. Note that on the mini Distress Inks the foam fits perfectly in the bottom no need for velcro. I do this so I can easily keep the foams for each color separate and ready to swap on my 4 blending tools. I did buy 2 of the Distress Ink Pad Storage Tins because I hated how the lids would come off whenever I knocked over a pile or dropped the pad....which happens ALL THE TIME! I tried taping the lids on, but that was a hassle, so spent the money on the tins--love how they snap in and they still fit with the foam pads on the bottom. Love the transformation so far on your area and it's always inspiring to see your progress!!
@shabbydabbydoodah4 жыл бұрын
I love your idea for the velcro with the ink pad on the bottom of each, really clever.........I guess they wouldn’t stack so easily then though 😕🤔, which is a shame because I love that. You might also consider adding a bit of water to one half of each sticker.....or just have a play around with your distress inks, oxides, and water. The oxides especially change with application of water. The oxides will actually show true on darker papers, especially once the water is added. I’ve seen the explanation a few times about the differences between the two types, but to be honest, it mostly goes in one ear, and out the other. The only explanation I recall, if I’m remembering correctly, is that the ink is more transparent and will dilute (color becomes more faded) with water, the oxide is more opaque and will not fade
@shabbydabbydoodah4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for all the info about the difference between the inks. You sound like me, in one ear out the other, I just can't remember things like that! Lol. The ink being more transparent than the oxides I guess is the main thing to remember. Thank you x

I don’t think this is boring at all, I used a label maker and put the names on the side of my pads and it never occurred to me to actually dip it in the color and put the color on, duh, makes way more sense to put the color than the name. My tidying is coming along, after I finished the two Christmas journals that I made I got to tidying. I have a pile of empty containers sitting on the floor and I actually have empty space on my shelves but I’m not anywhere near done yet. I keep getting distracted and started doing other things. I do have other things in my craft room because it used to be my office when I worked so I’m distracted by all that stuff. I threw away a ton of old work stuff and old medical records. Then I get distracted and I’m in the other room going through old CDs and selling them on Decluttr and the ones that they won’t take I need to pack up and take to donate.

Hi Tina, this was fun I owe you a comment on the last one. I apologize I have been so stressed out here. Knife fights outside my door and now a shooting guy randomly walked in and randomly shot 3 times into my neighbors. he did it the night before and the night after in two other neighborhoods.... It is out of control here... I'm sorry. I have a plan to binge your other videos hopefully this weekend if not soon. Oh so don't kill me... as a stress relief I tend to build stuff. So I bought a mini table saw lol and found a new bookcase.. I painted it.... the exact color of your teal ink pad :D doing a white and teal theme... and I made a plan to build a ink storage case. made a desk (totally shabby) out of old wood... and reconstructing a storage cabinet. thing... (yep I'm stressed) but on the up note I cleaned out my closet and purged a lot... guess I'm making room to buy more... I still don't have my Fb back not sure if I will. and tbh making do. I like the label swatch on your ink pads great visual... I have to do that with mine and my sprays. I think I getting ready for a long winter. so it's good. I find I tend to keep my things like a store... displayed my big fabric is on mini vats a piece of cardboard and spun around and then put on a shelve (in bookcase) like a book... like the store has... looking around most is like that. Oh my crafty neighbor gave me some fabric dye and looking forward to playing with some old sheets.. keeping busy... these are crazy times can't wrap my head around most of it... sorry I carried on (just know I appreciate you it's always a welcomed escape to play and tidy in your place. most times I want to come over and help... if I could swim I might make it across the pond... lol Oh your side piece space they make a narrow throth bin since that is prime space (closest to you) put lil scraps or bits in a narrow bin for easy access... :D Wow I wrote a book lol always a pleasure xoxo ~j

Definitely not boring! In the future, try your pokey tool to peel off your stickers. I use mine for everything 😂 I have a part time job hand-finishing greetings cards which involves those little gems you used in your video the other day. I use my pokey tool for that too.

What’s the difference between the Oxides and the Inks?

Some gorgeous coloured inks there. You could have stuck your labels on the lid then used that to press into the ink. Just wipe the lid after. No messy fingers. 😉X

Ranger Ink has labels you can print. They are on the website under resources, I think. Also, Tim makes an ink refresher that you should use instead of water. I watch way too much Tim Holtz, lol! Check out his videos on his Facebook page. He explains all about inks, oxides, etc. Inks are dye and somewhat transparent; oxides are pigments and dye and are more opaque. Thanks for the videos, love watching you create journals and tidying up!

I hadn't known about those labels Pat, until someone else mentioned them in a previous comment. I guess it's still good to have the actual colour, as sometimes even the printed versions wouldn't be as accurate. Great to know though, and would definitely save getting messy. I haven't ever looked on Tim Holtz fb page, something to do when I have time, thank you x

If you wait for the ink to dry, the labels will be a lot easier to peel off!

Oh my goodness, that is terrible!!! They are about £4-£6 each over here depending on the colour (the more popular ones are more) So a bit of an indulgence I must admit, but it is wonderful having lots of yummy colours. Wow, you must get REALLY messy!!!! Lol x

You might try to look out for the Ranger mini ink pads....all the same colors, but a smaller ink pads. I expect they will be less expensive if they’re available wherever you are. I get the regular size for my walnut stain, vintage photo, and peeled paint, then the mini inkers for the other colors, because I don’t use the other colors nearly as often. Then you can expand your ink stash with less $ and take up less space 😁

Although I’m a bit of a neat freak, I really enjoy seeing some of the creative ways you are storing things. I only wish I had an IKEA close by. It’s about a four hour drive to the nearest one. They do have amazing things but the shipping is way too expensive.

Don’t spray water on ink pads if dry you can use a reinker or buy new pad. Distress and oxide inks are water reactive which means you change the colour when you add water. Not good to wet pads. Please watch videos by Tim Holtz for more explanation. Love your labels I used ranger labels with double sided tape on back so have colour and names at glance. Hope this helps. PS. Oxides are my favourite too.
