The fact he lost no one, and that it was 4 months after he made it to the whaling village before he could rescue the others was unimaginable

One of the best movies on Ernest Shackleton, this was on A&E in 2002, I recorded it on VHS, then bought the DVD online a few years ago, worth every penny. Kenneth Branaugh did a fabulous job (as usual). One of the greatest survival stories of all time--highly recommended.

Thanks for the recommendation! I recently listened to an audiobook about the Endurance and I was blown away. The expedition didn't meet it's goals, it was a failure. But they failed so well its inspirational. Goes to show what you can accomplish with a lot of gumption and a really really, really good navigator.

Check out Nancy Koehn's book "Forged in Crisis" which features five remarkable people and their courage and contribution to society. The first person featured in the book is Shackleton....amazing writing.

This was a very good and underrated series that didn't rush and told the remarkable tale at a speed that enabled you to get a decent handle on all those involved. Great cast

some ppl think this is over dramatized, NUH-UH this is one case where the real story is almost more epic and dramatic then the film version. true Endurance.
@elementone43094 ай бұрын
Spot on. I have read several books on this expedition, including Lansing's excellent account - this series does not even account for half the terrible struggles they went though, particularly the immense difficulties landing on both Elephant Is. and South Georgia, which very nearly killed everyone or left them adrift...

Don't Blink Polarity I love how, in the film, and in the various memoirs--by both Shackleton and Worsley--they never quite admit to having eaten the dogs. It's cute, the way they dance around the issue.

+李玙(CRAZYPULSAR) It was the mawkishness of the Victorian culture. The British were the last to adopt dogsledding because they thought it was cruel to the pooches. Ironically, they were the last to abandon them.
