Thanks for the detailed review. Just bought a pair for my dad for Christmas. He wore the originals in the Air Force back in the 60's. I remember them very well, because they were too big for my face when I was a child. Maybe, it's just me, but i ordered a pair of AO aviator recently, and they just didn't feel as sturdy/premium as the Randolph's, so i ended up returning them and ordering a 2nd pair of Randolph aviators in a different color scheme. The AO also seemed to have a more curved edge on the corners; whereas, the Randolph's seem to have a sharper corner, which i prefer.

For example purepilot.eu (Germany) or www.ao-eyewear.ch/shop (Switzerland). Both have had difficulties communicating with AO for some time after AO's sale to Europa Eyewear in 2019, and last time I checked with them, both had not received stock of the new AO products, though the Swiss shop seems to have now. Don't trust the French & UK AO retailer that poses as official and is responsible for cheap post-license manufactured Chinese AOs on Amazon, which this channel falsely advertised as official AO product. Randolphs come with better value for money since AO's price increase. Customer service is responsive and their warranty is more extensive.

@@tonyahartley6085 Turns out it was a fulfillment error. Someone *forgot* both to put the glasses in the right box and to include the case. Mine got shipped to me literally in a ziploc bag. I contacted AO and they rectified it!

They are definitely buoy way better then the old ones. Retooling is extremely expensive so I think that’s where the added prices came in. But I think there prices went up only $20-30 from there old website to new. But I know there was a ton cheep deals on AO sunglass from non authorized dealers out there before.

I have a pair with polarized nylon green lenses and a pair with the glass grey non-polarized lenses. I love this frame to death. I do wonder, with the nylon pair, have you ever had any issues when doing a smile test with the frame front lifting completely off your face? I had that with my nylon pair and it drove me nuts forever.

The new frame looks more square/less curved (which I prefer), but he doesn’t go mention that anything about that.

I can't believe you skipped over the recent years of turmoil where the manufacturing went to China and back, with lots of fake AOs being sold since (like the $ 69 Amazon one you reviewed), and with lots of trouble preceding and accompanying the recent sale of the AO Eyewear brand (which was just one out of several divisions of American Optical) to Europa Eyewear. I won't go into those troubles here, but most people who tried communicating with AO or AO retailers in the last months will know what I mean. Please explain the absence of any mention of this. You don't get paid by AO for your reviews, right?

@@carly3710 1) The answer to your question is "research" (with the company and with a couple different retailers, for starters). Same as one should verify the authenticity of a product or a retailer with the manufacturer before the review to avoid reviewing conterfeit. You probably wouldn't say "how would he know" when a journalist misrepresented a story due to lack of research, right? If not possible or not fruitful, the person presenting a timeline with a long gap of seemingly no events leading up to the present should at least mention "I'm not sure what took place during this period". Otherwise it creates an impression with viewers that the gap is intentional and the timeline representative. If you go public and going to influence the public, be accountable. 2) I never implied that he lied, don't twist my words. I wrote "you DON'T get paid, right?" and that was unironic and simply meant to suggest that I think he should be more prudent IF he wants to be a history presenter to an audience on top of reviewing products.

The misleading part: American optical hasn't had any part of its manufacturing processes in China since 2014. So your assumed fear of cheaper quality hasn't been an issue for over 6 years. As far as counterfeits go. That's nearly impossible to stop, but very easy to mitigate from the consumer end. Only purchase from reputable dealers, not Joe Schmoes nick nack shop on amazon with a 50% positive rating selling 100 dollar sunglasses for 45 dollars. The factually incorrect part: American optical didn't sell to europa, but rather to STATE Optical co. out of Chicago. State has always produced glasses in the U.S. and is going to continue to do so. The only changes to AO have been positive. Increased production space and increased quality on joints and solders. Better warranty, and more environmentally friendly production process. And finally, the ability to manufacture acetate frames in house. This took me five minute to find out. Instead of spouting bullshit and being an aggressive jerk off, how about you do your own "research" and keep your mouth shut, you silly little man baby.
