Wonder if they climb back up those chutes they slide down to get to the cockpits of their ships, or use a regular hatch, ladder, hallway, whatever? A bunch of this show would be right at home in an Austin Powers movie. Easy as it is to pick this apart, there's something really, um, far out groovy about it. All that ultra high tech science and fashion! The hot babes and manly men! I also had no idea Ben Orr played Straker before he played bass for the Cars. So cool. I was a very small child when this show debuted, and remember my older brother being fanatical about it. I can't choose a word for this, like campy, cheesy, etc. I don't think they fit. This show has something that modern shows don't have. It's entertaining.

The orbital craft Straker and Collins use to go up to repair S.I.D was a model re-used from Gerry Anderson's film , " Journey To The Far Side of the Sun ". ( 1969 ) Anderson also used the Space suits and helmets from that film for the " UFO " series.

I really like Timelash, too. Just the idea of being trapped in a millionth of a second so that everything (almost) and everybody is frozen, that is such a cool concept. So is the idea that the aliens gave Turner the ability to hop around different points of time at will in return for whatever help he gave them makes it a very intriguing story. He wound up getting what he deserves. That's a very real issue, a guy thinking that he'd curry some kind of favor in the new order by selling out his people and government. Nobody respects a turncoat, 99.999% chance they'd have zero respect for you and you'd probably be the first to die. I would've copped a feel on a few chicks if Col. Lake wasn't there.

Ah my brother, a splendid way to spend 90 minutes of my day. Colonel Lake is such a beautiful woman but I must admit, I don't fancy her in the purple hair. Only a couple of the girls could pull that off well and we both who those are. 😉😉 As always, splendid job threading things together. Thank you.
@FandersonUfo2 жыл бұрын
it took me several years to recognize Wanda under the purple wig - I always thought that was some random extra for a long time - her narrow long face doesn't carry the wig well - now when it comes to purple blouses omg - the buttons on that blouse were put through some extreme testing by Ms. Ventham's performance and personal attributes of course - I guess we should be pleased the buttons did not fail but 1 or 2 more undone would have been totally justified by the storyline here - 🛸✨👽⭐💚
@oldgoat1422 жыл бұрын
@@FandersonUfo As an engineer, I can certainly appreciate the strain the buttons were under. Personally I wished there would be catastrophic overload of a couple of them, especially during all of the running around but alas, those over engineered threads did not cooperate with my wishes. Pity. 😁

@@oldgoat142 - more importantly she handles a firearm well in a very tricky situation - it is so annoying that more of this series was not filmed - so much potential of story and character wasted - 🛸
@oldgoat1422 жыл бұрын
@@FandersonUfo I completely agree. She can absolutely handle a firearm. I would have no problem having her back me up in a dicey situation. She had a great deal of potential character arc that really could have been cutting edge for the time. Perhaps as a counterspy investigator or some other such role. The same could be said of other situations, such as Lt. Barry and Commander Straker. There was so much wasted potential.
@FandersonUfo2 жыл бұрын
@@oldgoat142 - most series are nothing special until their second or third seasons - UFO had such a great start and was so tragically cut off before it's true potential had a chance - Sci Fi on TV became junk like Buck Rogers and the first Battlestar Galactica type shows for a decade after - nothing serious was tried again until the mid 1980s and this show was still ahead of Star Trek Next Generation or even Babylon 5 - a very adult drama this sci fi show - 👽

Was there ever an episode where it shows how Col. Lake became Straker's co-commander?
@FandersonUfo2 жыл бұрын
not really - there was an unexpected need to change studios during production - during the hiatus Gabrielle Drake George Sewell Peter Gardeno and a few others were not available when filming started up again in Spring 1970 - originally Alec Freeman was a pretty obvious 2nd in command to Straker but after he left Virginia Lake began to fill that role - Paul Foster may have been out ranked by her seniority at SHADO although I think the idea of a female as number 2 was what drove choices back in the day - I won't discuss Wanda's original role as a SHADO research scientist in the series pilot - that only complicates what is already rather messy - 🛸✨👽⭐💚
@JimAllen-Persona2 жыл бұрын
@@FandersonUfo I wonder how much of a role Sylvia had in the decision. Paul had Moonbase so I guess she was a logical choice. I kind of figured that the first episode in the set was leading his to his poor judgement which gave Henderson the excuse to put her in Alex’s spot.
@FandersonUfo2 жыл бұрын
@@JimAllen-Persona - I'm not sure if anyone actually reasoned out whether Henderson or anyone at SHADO put Lake above Foster back in 1969 - the discussion between the Andersons and probably Reg Hill would have been can they use Wanda Ventham as a second in command that the audience in UK and US will accept at that time - I think they were very creative perhaps as the easy choice would have been Michael Billington moves into the George Sewell spot - whether Sylvia influenced that choice much I can't say or guess but I doubt she would object - in a way Foster's character actually became a little less important after he got burned for the promotion - he became a skirt chaser and easy pray for cat claws etc during the second filming session more often than not - Wanda got all the good parts in 1970 and she handled them very well - 🛸

Even in 2 thousand and whenever-this-was, UK automotive design continued to lag shockingly behind the rest of the civilized world. Also their hand-to-hand combat style had regressed to pre double-O levels, believed by mid 22nd century researchers to be in large part due to the ill-advised Brexit policy during the resurgence in popularity of dark ages and tinfoil headwear for gentlemen. Additionally, due to austerity, osha had stopped requiring the use of rudimentary hvac failsafe mechanisms and Tesla cam security monitoring. Add in improper lifting technique and using cheap packaging material as bed cushioning and it nearly set in motion a domino effect leading to the destruction of the fish-and-chips industry.
