this is sick. Shadow is portrayed as a very powerful being (as he is); Maria most likely single handedly stimulated Shadow's heart to be, if not "good", at least "just", thereby saving Earth from his wrath; the whole "Shadow the Hedgehog" lore is respected, where he turned out to have alien DNA; Shadow's power goes in parallel with Sonic's: the former draws strength from anger and sadness, whilst the latter has his friends and an easygoing attitude to feed his power. I love this characterization, fits so well. Red and black forever. Shadow is rightfully getting the attention he deserves these days.

A fun fact about Abe, and likely why you didn't know his name, he literally didn't have a name till this animation, he was just the GUN Commander before this point. Interestingly in the Archie Sonic Comics, back when they were around, DID give him a name, Abraham Tower, if we assume Abe is just a nickname then most likely they've canonized that name to the games as well.
