One thing I don’t think SEGA gets enough credit for about Shadow the Hedgehog, is how respectful they depict PTSD on a character that clearly has it. The fandom does joke about how Shadow is just edgy, but we do respect the guys condition as well. It’s only of my favorite things about Shadow, outside of his character design. I hope Sega considers making a prequel series revolving around Shadows past before being frozen for 50 years. Brilliant short overall, hope to see more someday.

Shadow's character arc is so great yet heartbreaking. No matter how much he tries to put the past behind him, someone or something always goes digging up those old memories and uses them against him. Shadow may have moved on, but the world (or universe) has not. Even a supersonic hedgehog can't run from himself. And that's why Shadow is so dang compelling.

Dude i love black doom, hes my favorite villain simply because his motivations are so horrifying. Its one thing to destroy the earth, and quite another to terraform it and turn everything on it into food. Especially since he wanted to eat them while theyre alive and conscious. Then theres the fact that all of his technology is biological, like god thats so grody, living ships, living guns, thats super awesome, i love biological tools. The fact that Eggman, who usually would hit someone like that up and propose to work together, is immediately like "ugh gross, get that thing out of here" and does an all out attack? The fact that Gerald and him are recreating Faust? Gerald thinking he can dupe the devil and then gets all of his life destroyed not even because of BDs direct actions but because of basicaly fate? Sonic's lore is kinda weird. The humans do exist in this world and all of the games that features them are canon to the franchise. But there's no mentions to humans in any canon sonic media since Sonic Unleashed. Not even in Sonic Forces nor the Metal Virus saga in the IDW comics who were supposed to be events of global scale. I heard there's a rule that the sonic writers cant do direct mentions to the humans anymore but this just makes some of the best sonic games seems kinda... off from the rest

Here's my crazy theory. The true villain is actually an alternate Shadow and what we saw was the blending of their pasts. That's why Shadow notices Gun is arriving too soon and the robot is attacking him. Black Doom is just an illusion to trick Shadow.

this first episode does a perfect job reminding you what happened, reminding you why Maria means so much to Shadow, and the fact that there is something wrong going on. Also episode 3 is on my birthday

Everything in this is just perfect. Shadow and Maria's bound is adorable and well done. They acknowledge Maria's condition in a way that actually makes sense and explains why she is on the arc. Yet also showing her resolve to push herself in making Shadow happy. Her love of science yet appreciation of beauty is on display with the Aura thing which was gorgeously animated. The fight with Shadow and Emeral was just cool. Then each of the nightmare sections were just horrying. The image of Gerald in chains with his writing all around him has never felt so chilling and the way it breaks apart to reveal Maria being gunned down is just depressing. Even the way they acknowledge the moon was partially destroyed was a great touch. Also new Maria VA is probably my favorite so far, sounding like a mix of her OG and her voice from Sonic X and Shadow the Hedgehog. Heck I'll even say this much that Shadow's modern voice wasn't as bad as normal. I still don't like the sound of the voice but you can tell like with Roger and like with Cindy that when they give this actor actual good dialogue their skills can shine. All of this gives my a lot of hope for the game's story to be amazing just as Frontiers was.

Between this and the Knuckles prologue from Sonic Frontiers proves that we are looooong over due for a top tier serious Sonic anime series or movie

This is no question the BEST 2D sonic content we have EVER gotten. Its ALWAYS been pretty Mid, Sonic X had cool moments but this is AWESOME Like there is ACTUAL IMPACT to the hits

I like the detail that when you see the g.u.n people and after you hear gunshots, the most damage on Maria is on the heart, meaning she got shot in the heart
