@@7evanWith Frontiers, that was a deliberate decision from SEGA/Sonic Team, for the story at least. The gameplay marketing was bizarre, as word of mouth from play-testers is what wound up getting people more optimistic about the game, and thus SEGA/Sonic Team themselves. Notice how different and much more confident the marketing was for Frontiers AFTER people got a chance to play it. More flamboyant, more sure footed.

They REALLY dodged a bullet on that one

@@7evan Yeah, that’s why I was like the gameplay marketing was super bizarre lol. After IGN’s nonsensical showing, SEGA really had to go back to the drawing board and hit restart. They probably decided to just let people play the game themselves and see what’s what, because as you stated, you can’t really explain the gameplay loop of Frontiers properly nor ingenuously. Even as someone who’s put 60 hours or so into it, it’s a game that you literally have to play to gain a good idea or feel of. That’s why after tons of people got to experience it themselves, it felt like the doors were blown wide open and marketing kicked off in a major way.

@@danieldickerson4838 funny thing is I've seen games with a similar situation of having an unconventional gameplay loop avoiding this problem all-together by just making a few flashy first trailers and maybe a demo available for the public. Of course Frontiers did get better marketing later on but like it really feels they replaced the original marketing team halfway through development with actual competent people who could sell a game regardless of actual quality. I ALMOST didn't buy the game until like 3 days before release but SomecallmeJohnny's video finally convinced me to give it a shot, and I've never been THAT conflicted in buying a Sonic game before. I swear a 15 year-old edited the gameplay trailers for forces and frontiers before the Hawaii event with how cringe they made the game looked

0:59 This is legit Sunset Heights from Forces, you can see the Forces style Eggman robots. That plus Chaos Island shows that not only are past levels being brought in, but future ones as well. All of the Doom Powers looks so cool and amazing, as if I couldn't wait for this game enough already. The Time Eater has never been said to only be able to effect the past, so this could very well be it pulling things from the future for Shadow's campaign and his story happens along with Sonic's still.

Sunset Heights and Chaos Island coming back doesn't conflict with Shadow's story happening at the same time as Sonic's. I feel like people are forgetting that Crisis City was in Generations. Yes, that was in a past _game,_ but Crisis City took place ages into the future to begin with; A future that in Sonic's timeline should THEORETICALLY not even exist. It's not like Kingdom Valley, which existed before the events of 06 would have even occurred, even with them resetting time and such at the end. I'm personally really happy they aren't sweeping Forces under the rug, cuz running from and ignoring your past is lame af, and it looks like they're aiming to elevate it further here. Holding out hope for an Infinite fight. This game's gonna kill it.

The part with "This pressure, it feels just like" with the chord afterwards was the same opening chord in the beginning of Live and Learn, but it was more subdued and not that noticeable. City Escape's first lyrics also does it, too in the beginning with "Rolling Around at the speed of sound, got places to go, got to follow my rainbow" matching that chord. SA2'S Musicology is absolutely awesome that when you use parts of the music with a different instrument, it hits different.

I'm so happy we're finally getting to see Sunset Heights in what looks to be a more fleshed out game. One thing I really hope they do is incorporate more of the background elements into the stage, like the Death Egg robots; Forces had that one quicktime event where you blew one up, but it'd be dope if Shadow used Chaos Control to slow down time and raced up one of the robots arms to get to another part of the stage.

I do wanna add, concerning the placement of Shadow's campaign. In the IDW Sonic comics (where Neo Metal & Metal Overlord also returned), in Issue 5, the one where Eggman reemerges. Sonic recalls various Eggman plots from past games, including Adventure 2, Unleashed. And even the Time Eater from Generations! And since the IDW comics are canon & taking place after Forces. It just adds another whole layer of intrigue to the plot of Shadow's campaign.

I'll comment this here, but remember when Shadow was included in the Sonic Twitter Takeover cast when they were promoting Frontiers? And how he was the only one of the entire crew to be there in the Takeover but to NEVER appear in Frontiers? A pattern I've seen in the Takeovers is they almost always include characters of the game they're promoting (for example, for Forces, Eggman, Sonic, and Shadow, which both Sonic and Shadow were core characters to that game with their respective campaigns). All Takeovers had characters in the game up until #6, which was Frontiers' Takeover that featured Shadow. I believe there will be Frontiers levels/references/storyplots in Shadow's campaign for Generations because in one way, he might've been in the Starfall Islands. If not, why include Shadow to be in the Takeover for a game he never appeared in?

I'm curious about two things: one is the implications of a Frontiers level showing up in this despite the fact that this happened 11 years BEFORE Frontiers. Like, are they pulling from the future as well, or are they saying that Shadow has BEEN to Starfall before somehow? Two is the fact that, again, this happens 11 years ago from now, right? So we haven't seen these powers before, and suddenly they're here. I wonder how they're gonna explain that one. Is Shadow going to lose the Doom abilities at the end of the game after defeating him? Honestly the Doom powers seems more like using wisps but with the approach of how Colors handled them a.k.a powerups/abilities used to open up levels and add more alternate routes while sometimes being mandatory but not a gimmick of the day that completely changes the control scheme every 2 levels like how Lost World made us use them I mean for eg, Doom flight seems like the crimson wisp but actually fun to control and Doom morph seems like the spike wisp but usuable in 3D with the Avatar's grapling hook This ain't even a criticism guys what I'm trying to say is I'm actually hyped af now lol

I like the growth of both Sonic and Shadow. It took Super Sonic to take down Perfect Chaos and Metal Overlord. Meanwhile Sonic took down in his base and it seems like Shadow will do the same with Metal Overlord. I like it 👌

Part of me is interested to see chaos island in this game cause I’m very interested to see how that plays into the story, but another part of me sees it and thinks oh they’re probably just bringing it back so they can save time by reusing assets for some stages. We’ll see how it goes though lol

The big thing about the Doom Powers is that they look like they supplement the gameplay and build on an existing base instead of overriding it like the Wisp powers do.

I think you do still fight Metal Overlord in Final Fortress. I do remember the Egg Fleet getting blown up at the end of the normal campaigns, so maybe the Fleet’s remains are in the ocean.

Chaos Island is still a part of Shadow's future, even if he's never been there. It's still in the future. It's not like everyone exists in their own personal timeline. Also, time doesn't exist in White Space, so past, present, and future don't really matter. Shadow was likely brought from the future and his adventure takes place concurrently to Sonic's adventure.

But I wouldn’t mind if the name of the area gets renamed to Sunset Heights like Sonic’s level in this area. Edit: Apparently it’s not called that in the comics. It is just called Sunset Heights, which sure. It was a way better name anyways.😂
