Oblivion was the reason I was sent on having a pc one day, and Skyrim has really gone on to reinforce that point. Would be great to see this on console though!

The nemesis system has a patent. So does making a mod that uses the system technically breaking any rules? Theses are the real questions!

They certainly are the real questions, the mod page does state that it isn’t the ‘nemesis system’ but the modded own interpretation of it, whether that will hold up in court though… I haven’t looked into it myself but I hope for players sakes it does!

I think it’s ok, patents cannot protect ideas but only implementations of ideas. As long as the mod author has created their system (as in, the literal code) from scratch without using any of the original system’s code, that’s fine. Also patent / copyright doesn’t protect common or known ways of doing things - this applies for axioms like 1+1=2, cooking recipes etc. This the reason why those online recipe blogs write *paragraphs* of personal crap and you have to scroll forever to find the actual ingredient list and method. It’s because the blog can be copyrighted as long as they’re adding original stuff to the uncopyrightable material (ie. The idea behind it)
