Shadow of the Colossus - PS2 Time attack world records

These are the fastest PS2 times I could find with 'video evidence' on the web. Others have claimed even faster times, such as Unidone, MgoStun and Miron but either these videos have been deleted or they were never uploaded in the first place. The quality isn't that good, but I resized (upscaled) them all to fit the screen at 640 x 360p.
These times are incredible, especially NTA. Most of the records here are by 'Noocurrname', a Spanish player that has a super human talent!
I think we should have separate times for the PS3 time attacks as the game is more challenging in the HD version (especially #03 and #15)!
Note: Almost all of these records have been broken by new, faster players such as Stormglad - the current fastest player in the world!

The only 2 things I can brag about: #1: I've 100 percented the OG, laggy frame rate PS2 version. #2: I figured out how to keep the stick from the Celosia fight. That being said, I passionately love this game, and I like to think I'm one of the best at it, but these people are on a whole other level. These people are GODS of time attack mode...

What exactly is 100 percenting the old version? Killing all the colosi? Killing all the colosi in Easy, normal and hard? Killing all the colossi in time attack mode and hard attack mode aswell as normal easy, normal and hard because I beat all of the 16 colossi on the ps2 version which is the version I like most out of the ps3 and the ps4 version.

Now that i'm watching this again years later, i realise how good the old colossi sound effects were. Quadratus screams sounds so much better on ps2 than on the ps4 remake. There's so much more emotion on the screams than today.

I took down colossus 8 in 35 seconds on hard mode using the Sword Of Dormin. I probably didn't break any records but I was happy just to do as well as I did, especially using a controller with terrible drift. Watching these speed records is impressive & they make it look so much easier than it really is. Persistence can pay off though. After trying on & off for over a decade, I finally got the Queens Sword for PS2 & PS3 in December of last year. It was a great way to end 2021.

For those of you complaining; note that Noocurrname is playing the PAL version. If you look at the back of your box, it probably says NTSC. That's why many of his tricks don't work for you.

It's all relative. if the frame rate is slower the timer is slower as well, so it doesn't make any difference to the time in the end. These guys are masters of the game - I mean just look at the times in NTA - they are incredible!

after his 12th NTA it was the 8th HTA...I challenge him to beat my 1:10:88 , he did sub 1 minute some days later putting an end to my ambition to become better than him even against a single colossus. However he is very humble, he never told me how suck I am even if I challenged him quite often, neither he told about himself that he is a good player. always willing to help people (including me) to get better times, a great human beings. That was my little tribute to him.

the fact that you could exploit environmental and physical methods using your ability as a player to drastically reduce the amount of time required to kill each colossi was so good and entertaining that they decided to make the grip a lot more loose in the hd remaster, so that wander gets staggered even if the colossi farts or breaths and you can swear like a satanist :D hooray. I definitely don't miss the way you could head jump gaius in the ps2 version... definitely not ^-^.

Time attack in the PS3 version was complete horseshit with how unfair it was. Thankfully, it was challenging but easier in the PS4 remake.

None of these videos are mine, I just found them online and put them all together into one video to show the fastest times. But to do that trick, you push up and hit triangle then release triangle and push forward again. It's tricky to master and usually Wander falls back and grabs onto the ledge but if you practise long enough you can master it. I still can't do it every time xD.

Speed runners manipulate the game to their advantage, that goes for the colossi AI and the physics. There are alot of speed runner guides that show you how it's done.

That's legit. The weak spots extend out further than you think. Try it with Avion and you will see. There's no cheating in these videos.

Quadratus is way faster in normal game because if you drop down off the path over the part where it comes out there’s a place where you can stand on and it will trigger the cutscene and you can then just jump straight on him

18:51 - is there a trick for not being thrown out of position so you can charge the stab more effectively? I'm not sure what to do, when the colossus starts flailing around, I just can't grab a hold long enough so the stab charges even 1/5th before he throws me out of position successively... what I try to do is to let it go and balance myself free for a second before grabbing again, it seems to allow me to charge the next stab a little better, but they don't do that here...

There are forums about time attacks but usually they just list the times of players etc. All you need to know is there in the videos. I would choose one colossus and then just practise over and over until you have it down to an art, then start recording and hopefully you will beat one of the time attacks. Although these guys are so good it will be very difficult I think! Maybe try with #1 or #2 as they are the easiest to beat.

Just from personal experience I have performed just about every trick shown, just rarely on conjuncture and never with any reliance. And yes to everyone asking, you have to have ps2 version and certain tricks require certain versions to pull off.

Man, I could pull off the Gaius trick, but not so consistently. The Phaedra trick but probably less often. And the barba, basaran and argus trick probably very rarely, but I have no idea how they pulled off the cenobia trick.

Can anyone explain to me how they move Wander around during the "cutscene" moments of the colossus fights? I tried asking when I was younger, but I never got a straight answer. I've both the PS2 and PS3 versions, and I've loved this game ever since it came out. When I looked into speedrunning to save a few minutes in Time Attack Hard Mode, I still was never able to move around during a cutscene. If anyone has the answer, or even just a link to the answer, I'd really appreciate it if you could share the information. :)

Certain Colossi trigger cutscenes that don't "Freeze" Wander in place meaning that some colossi can be dominated easily, Hope this helps :D

On Valus, I suggest jump slashing the ankle, and doing what is shown in the vid, when the cutscene starts, drop and move on the joystick to the left and down until a certain point, then up and left a little, then jump, and you'll be around the head somewhere

You made a small error in the description. Gaius HTA should be 22:47. Also, do you think you could list the achieved times in the description, because some of them are very hard to read.

Yes, that is hard xD. But I didn't really make any big discoveries, they were all made before I started playing. I've found some cool hacks though, like the moon jump and the code that stabilizes Wander's gravity, they were good discoveries I guess. Getting up behind the E5 forest towers for the first time was also pretty cool and the ledge that leads to 15's castle.

I'm less interested in individual colossus times and more interested in doing the entire game start to finish ASAP. Because of this some strats will be diffrent, maybe slower but much more consistant. I was hoping there'd be a place where I can discuss with people how exactly all of this is done bhut I guess ill have to trial and error my way through it. an example is that the strat for 15 shown in this video is really hard, even with practice, and it would come an hour and a half into a run.
