@@outsider8683 Sad but true, and can we just be done with fucking bows in games for a generation or two now XD Shadow's best USP is that the puzzles are actually pretty good this time around, the visuals are rather sexy and that Lara handles (when she isn't spazzing out) near-perfectly when compared to the first 2 Reboot games. Unfortunately alot of the development teams these days are are casual normies, and sadly, gaming went mainstream and we've been getting recycled, lazy, trend chasing garbage ever since. Now you got people who don't even play games crying out for easy modes and more hand holding in these games which is exactly what we get, I can't play Sony games because of the sheer amount of hand holding. As soon as gaming went mainstream and all the old school devs retired and were replaced with these new twitter baby gender studies majors who think a woman wearing shorts is sexist, that's when all the actual passion for western game development died

Hey man, this was excellent. Thanks for all the hardwork. Isn't it depressing that a lot of discussion about games isn't about gameplay? Like that's the USP of the medium, but serious discussions about gameplay beyond the very superficial have been sidelined in favour of interminable talk about graphics, aesthetics and story. AAA 'cinematic' games completely dominate the mainstream discussion of games and digging into gameplay, mechanics and is-the-game-any-fucking-good just seems a tertiary consideration at best.

I've found every Tomb Raider game since the first one to be disappointing in different ways but rebooting the series into a boring on-rails cover shooter was the worst decision they could have made short of turning it into a concentration camp bestiality simulator. Could be that the fan remake of 2 turns out to be the perfect mix of control and level design that for 25 years has been so frustratingly close but never quite there?

On the high difficulty i enjoyed some of the puzzles and platforming for what they were.. however infuriating was the constant walking talking cutscenes and walking simulator segments... As well as the checkpoints.. they are so frequent as to be laughable.. usually in any platforming section you will literally be placed literally at the point of your last jump or at most the jump before it when you die making it almost feel like there isnt any actual consequence for dying.. reminds me of doom eternal where if u fall down it just re spawns you right where you fell from but eternally and with no final consequence like having to start a sequence all over

I've just finished watching this series and i have to say i agreed with almost everything you said except with something regarding the reboot ( not counting shadow wich sucks). I haven't played every tomb raider but i have played anniversary and underworld, and the reboot trilogy. I feel that the reboot did something right: they had a choice to make, either keep faithful to the formula and please fans or do something more broad and attract new fans. I think the choice they made was the right one. I became a fan with the reboot and it made me also appreciate the older iterations. However i do think they should remake the original trilogy with new looks to allow for new people to get to know the original tomb raider. I do have to say that for me the reboot has two major issues: first there's a clear lack of puzzles and tomb raiding i really missed that and second the change in character. I don't mind the redrawing, she's still hot, just more believable. What I mind is the change of personality. Lara used to be this independent strong quick-witted treasure hunting menace, and now she's just a brainiac baby, i think they could have kept the old personality and just added the intelligence part. In conclusion, in my opinion the reboot allowed for new fans to get to know Lara, but they should had never forgot the old tomb raiders. I hope that in the future they might develop a remake trilogy, keeping the openess and the puzzles, just improving the looks ( and maybe the controls)

That diversity disclaimer appeared on Assassin's Creed back in 2007. It'll eventually transpire that some highly influential marketing shitbrain has mistakenly categorised The Woke as a lucrative demographic and compounded the error by modelling the demographic on middle class white signifiers of Wokeism, provoking the mass entertainment industry to oversteer from years of callous racism and sexism into this trajectory of cynically insincere slurpy diversity horseshit. Yes it's very wearying but preferable to the inevitable backswing in the other direction

Phenomenal review. I liked 2013 TR when it came out, it was Rise that made me seriously question the series’ direction. Shadow was outright dogshit for me and I couldn’t even finish it it was that bad. I recently went back to 2013 and I find that incredibly boring. The classics have their issues, but all Core Design TRs are still incredible. I’ve recently gone back to them for the first time in nearly twenty years and I’m shocked by how well they’ve largely held up. However, the recent trilogy suffers from all of the contemporary leftist condescension, identity politics and modern day feminism. And for all of the soporific creative issues with this last trilogy, it looks like it’s only going to get worse. Anyway, amazing work.
