I saw a great theory on why Gehrman whispers that doll line. The gist is that he’s grown ashamed of it, since he made a doll to resemble Lady Maria. He even seems to avoid her. Odds are, after entering the Hunter’s Dream and seeing her walk and talk, it frightened him. He made a creepy effigy of his student to play pretend and dress-up but now it’s alive and has its own autonomy and asks questions. Basically, Gehrman is a dark version of Geppetto from Pinocchio.
@masquerader101 Жыл бұрын
I have a theory that if she had been with Gehrman he would've wanted her to be submissive and kind like the doll, losing all her passion and personal greatness. Maria never could've found true purpose within the world she was born in and that in itself is quite tragic. She was simply pulled in too many directions.
@ross8093 Жыл бұрын
@@masquerader101I heard a theory from someone that it could have been yes him wanting that but mistakenly thinking that Maria would aswell. How she talks easily conveys how much she disliked her life as a hunter so in making the doll he removed all aspects he considered tk be part of her due to being a hunter. Leaving her this stereotypical delicate reflection of a lady. Which is twisted because Maria's personality amd traits for the most part likely wouldn't have been different at all if she weren't a hunter cause she regretted her actions as a hunter not who she was. So gherman didn't even achieve anything with the doll like he wanted I think
@masquerader101 Жыл бұрын
@@ross8093 And that serves to make their story even more tragic. Sad to think that we had the comfort of the doll and even the joy of the hunt, but Gehrman actually was just a lonesome, broken man. Dont make your own Hell, kids.
@soulsmith5935 Жыл бұрын
I know the lyrics of his theme don't line up with this, but listening to the song I imagine him recalling all the trials and sacrifices he's made for the sake of the hunt, crying out and begging for the Great Ones to hear his plea to return Maria to him, and as the music builds, there is a single note that chines before the chorus kicks in, I see that note as Gehrman finally making contact, the voices that rise changing the song much like the madness of the Great Ones changed Gehrman's mind, and when they fulfill his plea, the voices fade from the song, it plays his tune, but with more instruments, is different, added to, but I feel like something is missing, an amazing melody, but I can't help but feel it's not perfect (on purpose), like there's 1 more instrument that could've been added, and I feel that is how Gehrman sees the doll, an answer to his plea, but it's not what he thought he would get, it's a companion in her image, but it's not Maria

Ive played and beaten this game so many times that basically the entire map is imprinted in my brain lol After discovering the souls games, i bought a ps4 just to play bloodborne. It was my first souls platinum, and will always be my favorite. This game holds a special place in my heart. I was at my lowest point in my life after being in 2 car accidents back to back and being taken off work. I was depressed and lost in my own head, but bloodborne pulled me out of it. Bloodborne and souls in general really changed my life and changed how id tackle problems in my life. The concept of death not being the end, but a chance to learn, grow and adapt to overcome the challenge(boss) in front of you. People think its unreal that a game like this could have such a massive, profound change on someone, but they really took me out of that place and changed my outlook on everything

I bounced off the first hour of Bloodborne four times before I finally watched a beginners guide to combat. After that, I bounced off at progressively deeper points. At some point it finally fully clicked for me. There’s no other game that that I so consistently enjoy playing. There are lots of games that I absolutely love, but if I play them long enough, I eventually get bored of them. The only game that I can play forever and never get bored is Bloodborne.

Regarding the layers of the nightmare, the nightmare of Mensis is actually the highest, not the frontier. You can see the mensis tower/castle from the frontier, high upon the distant mountains and you can see the frontier from some of the balconies in mensis.
@alastor8091 Жыл бұрын
Ever notice the sky box in the multiple levels of reality? The Yharnam sky is normal. The Hunter's Nightmare has a cursed and ailing sky. The Nightmare Frontier is the same, but because it's a little higher on the planes of reality, it has a clear space between the raging clouds. The Nightmare of Mensis is as clear as can be, with the moon so close one could swear they could almost touch it. Base reality represents ignorance. One doesn't even know about the cosmic storm above, cant even perceive it. As you ascend higher, you pierce the clouds and get closer to space, the cosmos. Yet, you can't even see stars from the highest vantage point humans reached in their research. So close, and yet so far.

i have a theory about why the brain of mensis doesn't inflict frenzy on you when down in the pit. if you notice in the cutscene that plays when you drop it from the tower, it's wrapped in chains and also has some big metal spikes driven into it. when you find it down in the pit, the spikes and chains are all gone. i think its frenzy gaze was it lashing out in pain from those spikes. the chains come loose when its dropped from the tower, likely freeing up its hand and letting it pull the offending spikes from its body. now down in the pit, it's passive as it rests in relief from the pain that was being forced upon it. poor blobby thing!

The opening cutscene represents the dichotomy of the effects of blood ministration. You're receiving your first dose of the old blood, and in the post-op haze you see a vision of the beast growing within you threatening to consume you, but through your willpower or perhaps even cosmic intervention, your inner beasthood is quelled. Afterwards you are embraced by the messengers, emissaries of the paleblood. This represents your initiation into the dreaming. Once again, whether being chosen to dream by the Great ones is arbitrary or has something to do with the player character's unique resilience to the beast curse is up to interpretation. Either way, blood ministration in Yharnam is the gateway to both outcomes.

I'm pretty sure the introduction cutscene is you, a foreigner who is afflcited with some disease - likely a fatal one, come to Yharnham due to the rumors of its healing blood as a means to cure yourself where no other remedy has succeeded in doing so. The contract you sign is you allowing you to be admistered the healing blood and the subsequent vision of a blooded beast that burns in flames is the scoruge of beasts within this blood looking to overtake you as it gas done to all the other Yharnamites and then is burned due to the fact that your soul was chosen by the Moon Presence to become a Hunter, which is why the Messangers come to wrap around your body. You then reawaken some time later, reborn as a Hunter and begin your Hunt.

what actually tipped me off about iosefka's clinic was that when you first talk to her, at the very beginning of the game, she says she can't let you or anyone else in. she's extremely insistent and apologetic, but the safety of her current patients was too paramount to let anyone in. then suddenly, she's done a 180 and is fine with anyone coming by? something's up. the only person i sent to "her" clinic (i'm pretty sure it's not actually iosefka, as one of the aliens has her vial) was the beggar man in the forbidden woods.

The best blood gems in the game. Yes the dungeons could of been done better but as someone who has 3000 hours in the game (yes no life) most of those hours are spent in coop helping people get past the cursed and defiled dungeons. If this game gets a remake and they put a ton more effort into the chalice dungeons it will solidify itself even more as the greatest game ever made.

"Why did Blood Vials go back to being a consumable healing item when they had already invented the Estus Flask?" This confused me too for the longest time. Recently it finally dawned on me. It's because of Rally, which is unique to BB. Every design choice in BB is meant to encourage aggressive play, including Rally; when you take damage, Rally will encourage you to behave offensively rather than defensively as you would in Dark Souls. And what better way to encourage this even further than to make the healing item consumable? Now, the player will REALLY prefer not to waste a consumable item, so they are even MORE likely to go on the offensive to get that health back for free.
@eddiemangum2326 Жыл бұрын
Another great thing. If you're good enough at playing the game and using the rally mechanic, it gives you just enough blood vials to where you never have to rest or grind for more healing items. Something you can't get away with in Dark Souls or Elden Ring (or Demon's Souls, for that matter) unless you've completely mastered them. It makes repeat playthroughs/NG+ runs really satisfying.

Man oh man want an unique exerience. Although I have died a lot, it was (almost) never rage-inducing. I actually felt more confident and better prepared for the next attempt. And the bosses... I will forever remember the heartbraking fight with Amelia or the beautiful dance of death with Gherman. Or Rom, whom in my frantic button mashing managed to stagger before teleport and killed during 1st phase. I though "oh wow, what an uncharacteristically easy boss" not realising how lucky I got in my noobness. Sorry for the long comment, it has been eons since a game got me this excited. Love your videos and I wish you all the best! Take care :)

Since there's probably no better place to post, I'll write my criticisms of the game here and why it fails imo to be one of the best From titles. -the enemy variety is lacking, enemies are repeated way too often. -the areas don't really stand out that much, some areas take place in a nightmare, yet the areas don't look special at all. -the chalices are some of the worst content in any Souls game. -the variety for builds is not that high, leading to lower replayability. -most items you pick up are bullets or vials, which means that the storytelling through items is minimal. -the annoying sections are at a very high amount in different levels. And others which I can't think of rn, and don't get me wrong, the game is still great but imo not an S tier one. The saving grace is that it probably has the best lore, which elevates it so much.

So I've talked about loving Dark Souls 2 all the time and it being the best RPG in the series while being a decent Souls game. No seriously look at all my other comments on any Dark Souls video and you'll see how much I talk about how much I love the game- however something I don't talk about is how much I love bloodborne and think it was the final good from soft game that implemented speed and ferocity to the enemies while also making the player balanced to fight such speed and ferocity. You're really fast and you hit like a truck but so do the enemies that you face on a regular basis. It's the only Souls game that I think does high-speed combat well because it's fair and it's balanced around the entire concept. Bloodborne is still an RPG first but unlike Dark Souls 2 it does do the souls like combat really well and the storytelling is cryptic but actually more understandable then a lot of other Souls games while still having some very cryptic moments if you want to dig into it. Everyone talks about how they love bloodborne and how it's the best in the series from soft have created and I have to agree it's the best Souls game they have created. The RPG mechanics are tied so deeply into the gameplay that you genuinely feel stronger the more you play the game because you are getting stronger and not just in skill, you physically get stronger as you progress in the game. Meaning a player isn't going to get stuck at a certain point in the game as long as they're moving along in the storyline. This means that a player who is just trying to play the game naturally is more likely to actually be able to complete the game even if they are not extremely skilled at these types of games. Something that was lost after bloodborne was having a fair and balanced Journey that rewarded skill but also knew that not everyone was going to be skilled. The problem with Elden ring and Dark Souls 3 is the fact that it's for the fans first and Gamers second. The difficulty skyrocketed tremendously in Dark Souls 3 but it is still beatable with a few issues. It's Saving Grace is the fact that it's a linear Journey so moments of frustration can be overcome a lot easier with experimentation and the game still rewards experimentation to some degree. I 100% Elden ring and did not enjoy anything past the fire Giant due to poor balancing and lack of player expression or at least player expression without rage-inducing moments due to skill. I normally play dual clubs for my first run-through of all the souls games in Elden ring was the first game in the souls franchise not bloodborne or Shadows die twice that made me give up one of my favorite types of builds in favor of a meta build everyone else was playing. I beat Elden ring by simply doing jump attacks with two greatswords. My poison Club build was absolutely useless after the fire Giant and in no other Souls game had I ever had to change my playstyle due to the fact my preferred playstyle was not optimal. That is the reason Elden ring will never be my top Souls game or even a game I Regard in high standard like all the others. Skill is fine to have in gaming but they're also needs to be a point where skill isn't a necessary part of your game at all times. Dark Souls 2 while not being a great Souls game understands this and allows the player to play with whatever they want to and only really challenges the player on New Game Plus where everything is completely different. And bloodborne is the same way while also tightening the mechanics and making combat the most important aspect of the game. It's fair and it's balanced but it's also challenging and rewarding because it's challenging. It's not overly difficult for the sake of being overly difficult just to please fans and it's not overly difficult all the time even when you have grown stronger. I 100% bloodborne because I wanted to due to all the Fantastic elements it had and the challenging but rewarding combat. I got 100% in Elden ring just out of spite because I would not let the game win and the game was not fun because I had to change so much during my playthrough just to beat a few bosses or overcome a challenge. Which would normally be a good thing but when Elden ring came out almost every single person was cheesing every aspect of the game something that none of the other Souls games ever encouraged nearly that much. Bloodborne did everything perfectly that needed to be done, it had solid RPG mechanics that felt like they were genuinely there just like Dark Souls 2, it mastered the art of fast paced combat and fast-paced enemies, it understood to push the player to their limit but also allow them to experience being stronger after overcoming a certain challenge, and knew not to overextend it's stay by making the game as massive as the previous games. I 100% of the game in about 37 hours whereas it took me 53 hours to 100% Dark Souls 2. It took me 453 hours to 100% Elden ring and only about 200 of the hours were actually enjoyable. That is why so many people love bloodborne is because it perfected the entire formula. I didn't mind the fact that they took out armor upgrading or limited how many weapons were in the game because of how flexible the game mechanics could be in general. In replace of the armor mechanic they made each armor set feel more unique visibly but made them all feel the same in terms of use. You could pick one set of armor in the game and practically wear that set for the rest of your playthrough without feeling like you lost out on something or you're not wearing something that's optimal. They balanced the enemy speed and damage to be a lot more fair but made enemies attack faster and overall more enemies in an area they made the bosses the hardest challenge in a typical area and every boss had a weak point and a very readable pattern if you paid attention. I think the only exception to this pattern would be Ludwig who is probably the most spastic boss in the entire game- but even he has some readable patterns and can be defeated in your first attempt if you pay attention. Even the most difficult bloodborne boss of them all orphan of koz has a pattern and often will never kill you in one hit or two hits unless you deliberately go in there at a very low level. And if you where having difficulties progressing in the game they had an entirely new system getting stronger in the Chalice dungeons- a system of randomly generated dungeons that could be completely endless in their design and what they could contain. A system that encouraged experimentation by seeing what you could make with your chalice glyphs. A system to this day that is still being understood and is still being uncovered with its secrets. The Chalice dungeons alone make bloodborne endgame so fun to go through, and bloodborne actually made the unfair content really fun to explore and to try to overcome- those impossible glyphs that you find online are some of the most broken things out there but I actually have completed a few of them legit. Are they meant to be completed legit probably not, but the game's so fun with its core mechanics that I want to get better at it because I never feel like the game is cheating me. Elden ring felt like it was cheating me at times and I still think to this day that an open world souls game isn't the best way to create a true Souls experience - or at least it needed to be balanced a lot better than what it turned out to be. There is a reason that it's DLC has gotten more hate than it's gotten love and the reason that no one talked about Elden ring until this DLC dropped. I respect Elden ring but I don't think it's good, which is weird considering they've found the perfect formula with bloodborne. There wasn't a single boss in the game that I raged at that wasn't a challenge dungeon designed to be a pain in the ass. Every boss was curated perfectly and while they kicked your ass it was because you as a player wasn't learning from The Experience fighting them and if you were in fact having a hard time the game gave you plenty of opportunities to upgrade yourself and to create weapons that could totally destroy all opposition with the gym system and the Chalice dungeon system. Every system in bloodborne is designed to encourage the player to experiment and urges you to overcome its challenges. It doesn't slap you in the face for trying or make every enemy feel like you are made of paper. Every death is your fault and your fault alone- unless it's a glitch😅 But bloodborne is perfect and Dark Souls 2 is perfect in my eyes.

Much appreciate that you didn't went into lore explanation, because I really don't like "lore experts". In soulborne games, and especially Bloodborne and Elden Ring, lore is meant to be interpreted by a player. People who "ah yeah I watched 1-hour video of some random youtuber abput Elden Ring lore and now I know everything" - they just don't understand what are they missing out on. There are so many unansewered questions in both Bloodborne and Elden Ring (while Dark Souls and Sekiro having a bit more full stories without much missing parts) - it's one of the most amazing things in Bloodborne - trying to figure out your own version of what's happening.

29:38 the toll taking damage from the flaming bolder is based on insight idk the threshold to trigger it but I've gone back to yharnam with higher insight, like 30-ish, and the troll doesn't take damage

fun fact, you can straight up dodge the Wet Nurse's clone attack, for some reason it requires a "hit" during the fog animation. I did this a few times in NG+2 while finishing up my platinum trophy

Great game for its time. The 30 fps doesn't cut it anymore though. Not really playable until they come out with the remaster. Even then not excited about it. I saw everything Bloodborne had. It just didnt have the replay value that all the other Fromsoft games have. Sekiro isnt fun though. Id take a 30 fps Bloodborne over that trash any day.

Fun Fact: Ludwig loses his beast weaknesses in phase 2 (beast weaknesses being fire, the hidden Serration damage type that weapons like the saw cleaver or the Whirligig saw have, and the beast hunter gems)

In my opinion, the dungeons are the best part of the game. This is my favourite game of all time and I've spend about 80% of my time on this game in the dungeons farming the best gems. Love them so much, just the right amount of challenge that no boss in the first 4 ng cycles come close to comparing against, at least in my opinion
