I don't think it's just you guys. I didn't know the song before and listened to it out of curiosity. In my opinion the mixing in the original is pretty bad. The Instrumental is extremely loud and you can't hear the adlibs the rapper does during the chorus. I think this version is MUCH more balanced. Sorry for rambling on...
