I know that not everybody can afford an online course, but I hope that the fifteen videos in the Shadow Work Playlist will support the next steps of your shadow integration journey. I created this free playlist to function like a crash-course on shadow psychology with the intention of being as accessible and actionable as possible. I didn't want to stash the basics behind a paywall or email signup - I would rather you keep learning right here on KZbin. You can instantly access over five hours of beginner-to-advanced shadow work exercises and lectures with the free playlist linked in the description. Make sure to take your time with the guided exercises, and don't forget to buy the golden books. Jordan P. S. I want to say a heartfelt thank you to this comments section community. My channel is niche, and you've seen the Inner Work Library slowly expand over the last two years. I feel fortunate to receive such deep and genuine connections online, and KZbin recently told me that there have been more than 4000 unique commentors across my entire channel. Thank you for showing up, I appreciate you. If you want more depth, we can meet inside the library: courses.jordanthornton.com/shadow-work-library/

My thoughts was a long the lines of, I can lend them to you if you want or you can download if you need and don't have the monetary resources. I do NOT wish to give away someone elses work, always research the authors to see if they are still alive and what their situation is. If the knowledge falls into the universal domain, as in, it is needed, I do not believe in keeping it locked away. Two people who can fish is better than one dead fisherman.

I just ordered today "Healing The Child Within", "Meeting The Shadow" (and just for something else you'd piqued my interest in previously, James Hollis' ""The Eden Project"). I would've easily spent that same amount of money in a week making myself miserable with Gin and wine, the books you recommend are a far better way to spend my time and money. Thanks Jordan

That's smart, in my opinion at the current moment...small and personal, like the choice you made to invest in yourself....like a tiny seed...that shall grow as big as you tend to it's truthful potential...I'm inspired by your bold bravery to share a spotlight into your existence that highlights your ability to switch investments...and when the season was due to change you prevailed to win. By shifting the $ you were already allotting to one choice that was good then...to a choice that is very good for you now...in the present, just as a gift, I know that's how all of this is going to go for true truthers 😂

Jordan, I want to thank you for your work. I just ran across a post from a prominent figure in the grief world promoting a relatively young author and his book that is supposedly the next best healing from grief and trauma. I hope you don't mind that I shared your name and this video as a reminder that healing from anything is a journey, and that there are a wealth of books to read and not all things work at all times. I teuly appreciate that you recognize that different authors resonate with different people for different reasons, and there is no one book or method that will get us all where we want to go on this journey called life. We all have our own path, and those paths may converge at different points and places to help each other along, but at the same time this journey begins and ends with each of us finding and creating meaning in our own way.

I always have 5-10 books going! Not just psychology. Philosophy, classics,literary fiction, memoirs and non fiction. They are all helpful!😊 I appreciate all your videos and the help you have been to me along my journey. I’m 64 and wished I had started this long ago. Better late than never! I have a very helpful trusted therapist that is helping as well!

Thank you for sharing so informative. I've just ordered the books, thank you for the references. I love Richard Sheldrake's theory regarding healing yourself as a possible healing of the family line. (Jung to live by) On KZbin are so good for shadow work too and like yourself offer great advice, all carry deeper ways to understand family trauma. After years of tears, grief and returning to the same never ending merry go round I'm all in with the inner work and appreciate all who offer safe transport to help others get there.

Great list and thankyou. After many years I now question the terminology of the "inner child" - thinking it should be the Historical Child - every cell in the body has been replaced and there is an aggregate adult eventually which carried the memory - all memory at cellular level, of water - (Alice Bailey and Theosophy refers to the Three Permanent Atoms..) including the chiral water present around DNA - so connecting with nature e.g walking barefoot is not a connection with the inner child but a connection to the actual flow of Qi or prana or ELECTRICTY which runs through life and remembering how wonderful this feels. It feels rejuvenating and essential! It is essential and purifying, energising and enervating all in a positive way - it's a positive charge literally rising through the body from the K1 point in the sole of the foot! No need to identify it as a child thing at all! It's an electromagnetic thing. Native American Indians didn't go barefoot or wear moccasins to be child like - they undertook to maintain the vital connection with Earth - which has a vital connection electromagnetically to the cosmos via our solar system.Masters in Rishikesh dont wear hiking boots! Is it any surprise that in the age of Airmax trainers etc people are so disconnected? They are literally disconnected from the heavenly circuit wearing rubberised insulated air pockets while living in high rises! Literally airheads 😳 Oh - and one more thing! Children before WW1 on the whole didn't have the luxury of remaining children for very long due to the high mortality rates of their mothers and industrial circumstances and poverty. The Inner Child IMO is something of a luxury invented in the modern western world. Having lived in Africa for 15 years I see a very different picture of children and the inner landscape against poverty. Yes explore it but accept you might have to redress it through some one a lot less fortunate.
@jordanthornton
@jordanthornton 8 ай бұрын
This is one of the most sophisticated inner child reflections I've seen recently, thank you. I agree that the 'inner child' concept might be useful as a broad term, but your concept there of 'Historical Child' and the nuances is valuable. Cheers.

Just started reading Trauma and the Soul (recommended in one of your other videos) and only a couple of chapters you can tell it is a special book. Think I might go to archetype next as I've always been interested in how evo connects to our imagination+psyche. Another great video Jordan, I love love love your enthusiasm and passion about books! I can so relate to this! In fact books have always been my safe space in what I perceive as an unsafe world, which for me is huge, and a place to feel connection amidst isolation, and a space in which to kindle a spark of aliveness in the midst of depression. 🙏I have ordered more of the books I do not have from this list. Today I have been reading "Healing the child within" and "Waking the tiger" from Levine, which were already in my library (next I will buy his "In an unspoken voice"as you suggested)...just trying to not go all over the place...is this the place where you suggest to start in your video series? thank you so much for all this wonderful material. (p.s. may I very lovingly suggest, that Assagioli is pronounced with a soft "g" when there is "gi" it's like the g of general 🙏🌷) I was lucky enough a few decades ago to follow a workshop with John Firman and Ann Gila, when he was still alive, I agree with your appreciation of their work. ✨

Hey, welcome to this space. I’ll be filling out this new shadow work playlist over the next few weeks to about five hours of teaching - and that’s a great place to start. In terms of my course, it’s very different to KZbin because it’s a fully structured curriculum (feels kind of like a masters degree rather than entertainment) - it’s based off my private work with clients, and is intended as a fully structured progression with guided exercises and lectures. I love KZbin, but it’s more random because I’m responding to audience questions, but start with this new shadow work playlist as it updates, and I’ll see you in the course if you want to go deeper? 🌲

First off I would like to say thank you so much for your videos and all the content you have put out. I just found you recently and really love your energy and your videos have been very helpful for me. I am almost done (only 30 more pages) with the voice of the body by Lowen. For my next book I was thinking of picking up the book you recommended meeting the shadow, the power of attachment or internal family systems. But before I move on I was wondering if you think I should read Lowens betrayal of the body to get a better idea of bioenergetics? Or do you think the voice of the body is a good enough step into that realm for now? Also bonus question haha.. I’ve had some pretty interesting things appear to me in what I now believe has to do with the Anima. Feeling a presence or images in my head of a dark succubus/goddess, that is seductive, motherly, manipulative, and overall seems quite sexual. I have a lot to say on this.. but I was wondering if you could point me in a direction to help get more insight on this whether it be a book or something else? Sorry for the long message! Thank you so much for your work

In the meantime, you'll be well served by picking up both Meeting The Shadow and Internal Family Systems Therapy (get the 2nd edition by Schwarz) - in terms of anima issues, find a copy of Invisible Partners by John Sanford - all three of these together with Lowen should be a really nice stack for you. Enjoy the self-integration journey, and feel free to reach out again if I can be helpful here or inside the Shadow Work Library. I think you'll enjoy the multiple psychologies approach.

@@jordanthornton Thank you so much for the quick reply! I am definitely going to look into your course. Ive realized lately I do need more structure in things.. although sometimes I think I am too structured and intellectual, anyway haha! I have another question.. let’s say I picked up those books, do you think it’s best to stick to one and finish it before I move onto the next? Thanks Thornton!

How can we find the books that are no longer printed/published? I had the same issue in my researches and tips to my readers.Txs!

They’re lost forever, sadly. Many copies still linger around in second hand book shops though.

@@jordanthornton I had the same issue with Robert Moore, Douglas Gillette, Robert Bly - seems like they have deleted from the planet the best books speaking about the archetypes! If a publishing house brought them back to the market today they would sell a lot! Is there a will behind this of how can this happen? Thanks a lot for your time, no need to reply if you are too busy.

I do have a split pay option, and I hope that might work for you with some savings. I unfortunately can't have that many payment options for a course at this price, but I genuinely look forwards to welcoming you inside later this year if saving for the split pay might work better?

All you have to do is remove what is on you that is not yours, that allows for feelings of being traumatized, then u will realise nothing negative has ever happened to the real YOU.

Value in this perspective, but decades of research into trauma would suggest we need other things also. No exclusive answer, but thanks for contributing - I see your point.

@jordanthornton Well, Jordan, I'm certainly enjoying your playlist on Shadow Work. I've been down this rabbit hole of healing for years on end. Like you said yourself, it's a shallow pool out there. You've given me the tools on how to dive deep and get to the root. It's certainly helped me, and I'm grateful 🙏 I also appreciate that you interact with your followers and comments! Keep up the good work. Your content is on point. 💯

I love your book recommendations, but for heaven's sake, list them in the comments. You're clearly making an effort to be useful to your viewers, so why not go all the way?

It seems like you're asking a genuine question, so I'll be genuine in my response. Think what happens when somebody lists all the books in a comment - many people will click the video, scroll down and screenshot and then bounce off the video within 30 seconds. This is fine for them, but it massively hurts my channel and means that my work won't be shown to more people who likewise could do with being exposed to these resources. I trust that people can watch 15-20 minute videos and manually take the books which sound interesting to them on the day, and this seems to be working well overall. The best books come through at the right timing for my long-time viewers. Hope this answers your question, and I'm wishing you well for the new week.

Meeting the shadow was pretty good, although surface level, but still insightful nonetheless. Betrayal of the body, on the other hand, was underwhelming to be very kind. It started great till it started relating everything to Freudian ideas of sexuality as if there is literally no problem that is non sexual. Quickly turned me off 36:53

Have you checked out psychosynthesis by john firman yet? More advanced and you'll probably appreciate it, could likewise look into a book like the science of the art of psychotherapy by allan schore for more advanced takes on the same themes - be well.
