Every night of the All State Choir conference at about 11pm, everyone comes out to the balconies of the 18 story Hyatt hotel to sing the National Anthem

It must've been musically challenging to do this. You can hear the phasing on the entrances of phrases, but the choir did an amazing job of sticking together despite the fact that they can't listen to each other.

Singing in large, open spaces requires you to sing slightly ahead of what you’re hearing around you, as the sound is delayed in returning to your ears. A HUGE musical challenge and they nailed it (for the most part)

As someone who has been the past 3 years, it’s surprisingly not as hard. All of the people know the song so well that we kind of just blend together. It’s a work of art in itself that this works

​@@samjones6046 Yes, it represent the top students in the state (or last the ones who had the best audition at the district level). They get sorted into various ensembles and get music to practice individually, then gather over a long weekend to practice together and end in a performance.

Here's a note to all that watch this video: to get the full beautiful sound from the video i highly recommend wearing a pair of over the ear noise cancelling headphones , that's the best way to listen to this video. Wearing noise cancelling headphones makes it seem like you are there in person.

In 1990 one of my sons who was in High school at the time was selected to be in the All America sings tour of Europe. The orchestra and a combined choir of several 100 gathered in the Seattle Armory for a family send off. The director had the entire audience join in with the choir and sing the Anthem acapella. Well the genetics came through in that assemblage and I have never heard it sung better. After the last note echo died, there was complete silence, we were all stunned by what we had just done.

Nothing is more important than coming to attention for three minutes of your day when the Anthem is played. I cry when I think of all the men and woman who died, fought, bled, and were beaten for this country only to have it stand less than 250 years.
