SHADOWING a CRNA| The Best Experience!

Awesome video!! I have a question regarding shadowing. You mentioned that you began shadowing a CRNA as an ICU nurse. I am currently in school for my BSN and I know that I want to advance further, but I want to shadow both CRNA and NP and see what I prefer. I was wondering: is it possible for nursing students to shadow CRNAs or do I have to be a RN first? I was able to shadow NPs but not CRNAs thus far. Thanks!

Miriam Hamad Hi Miriam!! Thanks!! Great question and even greater way to be sure which path you want to take. There are shadowing opportunities for nursing students as well. Definitely reach out to your clinical coordinator to see if they have any insight if one of your affiliated clinical sites can have a student shadow a CRNA. If not, let me know but I don’t think it should be a problem

Thanks for sharing! Ok I stumbled across CRNA! I am interested in two careers, but would like to shadow first! I’m not even a nurse! I’ve been in dentistry. Looking to combined the two with oral surgery. Any tips? ❤️🙏🏽

Thank you for this video! It was so insightful! I guess I am confused on the process am I still able to find a CRNA on my own to shadow or is it best practice to request shadowing with a hospital first and be paired with someone? Would I be able to shadow with that person multiple times there after? Any advice would help!

+Jadore Taty hey hey! And thank you I’m glad you liked it! If it’s the hospital you work for and you know the CRNA there that you want to shadow, you may be able to set it up with the CRNA directly... I was a new grad and knew absolutely no one so I went through my residency coordinator..it also may be a good idea to go through a coordinator of some sort so they can set that CRNA up with a day that’s not so heavy with cases and they actually have time to show you things.i did shadow multiple times with the same CRNA. The second time was more indirect becasue I had developed a rapport with them so I just asked what day she was available to precept and went in.... make sure you stay flexible with times... I had to call out to get some shadow time in lol

+Risky Girl I asked my residency coordinator during my residency class, then she CC’d me on an email with the Chief CRNA and they directed me to the SRNA coordinator who set up my first shadow day
