Once you make your own hummus you will never want store bought again! I'm Lebanese and very particular about my hummus. Easy recipe: one can of chick peas drained ~ it usually is about 1 1/2 to 2 cups of chick peas. ( Some companies add more water than others. I prefer the Cedar brand which I get at a middle eastern market. Packed to the brim and very good flavor for a canned chick pea.) 3 heaping TB of sesame tahini, FRESH lemon juice (squeeze it yourself!) 1 1/2 to 2 lemons usually gives the perfect amount of juice for this one batch. 2 large bulbs of FRESH garlic. Blend in food processor, adding water a little bit at a time for consistency. Add good sea salt to taste. Trust me....use all these fresh ingredients and you will never want store bought again! I also want a report back! lol Good luck!

I purchase diced ham in cans and use them to season the beans that I have pressure canned. I open my canned beans that are basically cooked, use small amount of oil, brown onions, diced ham and garlic, pour in the beans and heat for a short amount of time. Dry beans cooked in no time! The diced ham is purchased at walmart, in my area, cost is $1.58 per can.

Check your area for salvage grocers. I have found a few within an hour of my house. A lot of these are food distributors that may have damage cases that they open because some of the cans are still good. Usually these are bulk sizes for a good percentage off. If you have Mennonite or Amish communities near you a lot of time you can get kitchen staples cheaper.

I don't know what happened to it? It's cheaper for us to do it that way with on sale pork roast and ham. I make our own sausage italian which I crumble pre cook and can or I make meatballs out of it and can it too and breakfast sausage which I pre cook in patties and freeze, out of on sale pork roast as well too. I am still baking with yeast I kept in my freezer that's over 10 years old. I put into ziploc bags for added protection from odor and moisture.

I always shop at Aldi...I love their corned beef hash, and sloppy joe sauce. Also, their pasta sauce. I don't buy canned carrots though. I think they are just too mushy, and fresh carrots are cheap.
@GreyManPrepping Жыл бұрын
Love corned beef hash 💛 The canned veggies are more so for emergencies and when we have a bad harvest. I plan on planting carrots here soon in my gardening videos 😁

I have been vacuum sealing chocolate and other candy for a few years now. I buy up after the holiday sales on candy and last year at Christmas I put out candy that was a year old and it tasted great no one noticed it was a year old. I also vacuum seal all my baking chips and other ingredients for fudge, cookies etc. my brother bought me those freeze dried fruits like you have from Aldi 3 years ago and I’m eating them now and they taste fine to me. Great video wish I had a Aldi around me. Have a great weekend everyone

Vacuum sealers are a great tool 😁👍 and that's actually a great idea for grabbing things when they go on clearance after the holidays! Thank you for the visit and hope you have a great weekend as well 🙏

My best friend who recently passed away, was born in Germany and lived there until she was in her 20’s. She turned me on to the chocolate at Aldi. She never liked American chocolate, once you’ve had German chocolate.

American chocolate has more sugar and shortening. I definitely prefer European chocolate and Nestle chocolate chips. Hershey added 15 % shortening a while back as $$ was more important than quality!!!

Great Haul! We too purchase a lot of the items you have but a few items like the ham, oats, and pancake mix we haven’t tried from ALDIs yet. Glad to see the freeze dried strawberries and apples. We will need to pick some up as well.

Buttermilk powder will get hard, like cement. It needs to be refrigerated after opened and over time. I make my own buttermilk pancake dry mix and then refrigerate it. Then I just have to measure out what I want and then add the wet ingredients when ready to use. It is a lot more expensive than it used to be but in todays climate, you got a lot for your money. A great haul.

Joyce, I've seen it sold online in chunks. You just grate it. I like to make cornbread with mine because I never use a whole quart of fresh buttermilk.

@@rhondacalderone862 Thank you for the tip. I have one in the cabinet right now. I was thinking of breaking it down and putting it into the grinder and making it a powder again. I just was not sure how it would blend with water or other ingredients but going to try. No harm no foul.

Myself i hav now started buying canned foods in 52s. So i only hav to eat it once a week. Sometimes it takes several weeks to collect 52. Now i have enough 52s that i might only hav once every 2 weeks to once a month. So it dont get boring eating. Once a month now means 4yrs worth of food. It took several years to do this. Now it is a lot easier to fill in the gaps. Lolol sorry so many comments!!!!!

Yes it’s a great deal, smart shopping. That food alone should last quite a while depending on how much your family eats. However if you need to ration it out a bit to extend it, I’d say you’re doing good! I’m going to go to Aldi and check it out!

Your canned chicken is great in slippery pot pie - - it's a PA Dutch dish -- very filling. I'm sure a recipe can be found on You Tube for it. I have been pantry prepping since mid pandemic days -- and have converted an unused bedroom into my pantry. I live alone but my son and family live a mile away and I know they haven't prepped much so if something would happen I hope to have enough to share. Recently started making beer bread - sure wish I had known about this in the no yeast pandemic days.

I shop at 5 different grocery stores in my area, 2 are large chain stores, then there's Walmart and 2 natural food stores. There's also an Aldi that opened a few years ago but I've never felt the need to shop there since have so many other choices. However, I may have to check out their chocolates since never had any from Germany.

Thanks Grey. I love Spam. I think the GV tastes more like the original Spam that I grew up with than the Spam we have now. IMO the CV is nasty and I've never had the Brookdale. I make my own pancakes from scratch omiting the sugar. That way if I want to make extra to have for another meal then I have it on hand. I also make my own baking powder; 1 part baking soda and 2 parts cream of tartar. You can add 1 part cornstarch if you want to stretch it. The ingredients don't go bad until they're mixed making the shelf life much longer. You can make as much or as little as you want. Also, if you buy the jars of yeast then 7 grams = 1 packet. My hubby uses the pancake syrup but I prefer real sweeteners; maple syrup, honey, cane syrup or sorghum. So I stock all of them. Much Love ❤
@GreyManPrepping Жыл бұрын
Great info Jan, and I agree the ingredients definitely store much longer separately vs mixed in a box. I prefer the good stuff as well mainly local honey, but my daughter she's a different story 🤣 Thank you for the visit Jan 🙏💛
