You should interview Vollmann, Chris.

I know, I know, I know. But I'm afraid I would just be starstruck to the point of total paralysis and incoherence!

@@LeafbyLeafBut your acumen for literature and life isn't too shabby either. Plus, always remember to get star struck by the work rather than the person.

You could totally make this a reality if you were so inclined. The 'True Anon' podcast got a two-parter out of him that was ~3hrs between the two. Was just after he'd published the recent Harpers piece. And not giving true anon a back handed compliment lol. It's just not a lit podcast, though plenty of overlap between subject matter. Check it out if you haven't. The episode's called grief is a witch hag... something something or other. Was a few months ago... or at the end of last year. It's "recent"

This is so exciting - I ordered a set at 3:44 minutes in. I deeply appreciate and admire WTV's work. He's the only writer I'm always reading.

My volume just came in and the build quality is amazing. One thing to note is Chris's video doesn't fully represent just how big these volumes are. If you decide to get them, you will not be disappointed by the size of the prints.

Great point! I should've used something to show the sense of scale, or at least named the dimension. Thanks for posting this!

I heard an interview recently where WTV mentioned he wasn’t sure if he’d ever finish seven dreams now that he was fired from Viking. :(
@LeafbyLeaf6 ай бұрын
Saddest news ever. Let's hope there is either reconciliation with Viking or another publisher picks him up! I know that Grove is looking at his most recent novel, as well as a European publisher.

“Do you believe in shame? Do you believe in love? And if they taste the same Would you love again? Or abandon both? I don't think I ever can believe My friend is gone Keep saying it's all right I'm gonna bring you back But I know I'm wrong There's nothing I can say There's nothing left to do It's just that lately I've been so damn lonely When I think of you And it may seem selfish now But I'll hold on to the memory Until all this fear Is washed away” -Simon LeBon

For months I've been going back and forth on whether to buy this, but your video convinced me to take the plunge. The slipcased edition arrived today and it is gorgeous.

Sorry (but not really) to influence your bank account. But, like you said: now you've got these two gorgeous volumes from the one and only Bill Vollmann. :)

For someone who "hasn't worked an honest job since 1986" he sure does get a lot of work done!

No kidding! Ironically, I think he's managed to get so much done because he doesn't have to work an honest job. At least, that's something to which I can relate! ;P

I was considering buying myself for Christmas a copy of William Blake's illustrations for Dante's Divine Comedy, but now I had to tell my wife "we're gonna need a bigger stocking" . . . .

Thanks so much! I do bring in her handbook on poetry in my Atsuro Riley video (about 3:30 in): kzbin.info/www/bejne/fH2wmKSMlKhqerc But, you're right--I need to do a video specifically on Oliver's work!

No problem. In fact, I would hope that people are too busy reading to watch my videos! :) I have not reviewed that one yet (I've not read it either), but a very trusted source put it on my radar years ago. SO many books...
