When we have an object placed in a beam of light, it has a part that is illuminated and a part that is not.
The part that is not lit is called the own shadow.
👉 Here is the vocabulary.
The shadow that is on the screen is called shadow cast.
Between the two there is what is called umbra. That is to say that an object which would pass here would not be enlightened.
👉 A second thing is to notice what becomes of the size of the statuette shadow according to its position.
If the statuette is close to the source its shadow is great.
If the statuette moves away from the source to get closer to the screen, the shadow cast has practically the same size as the object itself.
Own shadow does not change.
👉 When the Moon is between the Sun and the Earth, the shadow cast by the Moon hides the Sun.
It's the configuration of a solar eclipse.
